G.. I wouldnt have dreamed of imposing you with that, the thing was huge . it would have been in your way, and with your jeep restoration project, i really dont think you would have had the room, I am sorry i didnt ask,

By the way , our old friend Mr Hodges has been in contact with me ,he will be ringing me soon, i will forward his number to you when i get it, 😉

Would everyone PLEASE stop attacking Merkle? Yes, he is a dreamer, but is that a bad thing? At least HE TRIES, which is more that can be said from some people. And where would that Canberra be now without him saving it? Yes, he sold it on, but it is he who saved it from a skip! Another beautiful survivor thanks to him.
Merkle, I enjoy reading your posts and your plans. So what if they don’t always come to fruition? Keep on dreaming and I how you can make your dreams come true!

Thankyou Fouga, they are very kind words, truth is, i know i do look a fool on here, and have made a fool of myself, i must drive countless people up the wall,I know I am a dreamer, and a scatter brain at the best of times, but i do have a heart and passion for aviation, and i do try, I try very hard, i know i sometimes dont think things out properly , or try to bite off more than i can chew:o, for me personally to be able to take a wreck and turn it into something presentable is a dream of mine, one of my dreams is to be able to take something to the cockpitfest, and feel a part of that lucky few, I know many others have the same dream.
I know i post things on here ,,different ideas etc, but who better than a forum full of those involved in aviation to pose these questions too ??

I am sorry to anyone out there if in the past I have drove them up the wall, sorry for looking such a fool:(, its just my passion, and it runs away with me sometimes, I hope like many do, one day i will make it ,and have something to prove those who laugh at me wrong.. one things for sure, I will Never give up trying 🙂

I Wish I had, but i did manage to build up a large amount of parts .. which went towards the restoration, and the lads done a wonderful job, truth was i bit off more than i could chew, our friend with the provost was there when i bought it, and said we could do it, with his help, then the land issue came up, and i knew heart of hearts i then had no where to keep it, or work on it, it was a huge cockpit,.. I knew when i sold it, i wouldnt have such luck again, but couldnt bare to see it rot in a skip anymore, and preferred to give it up to someone who “Could” do it, and what a wonderful job they have done .

what else could i do ???..

Moderated and one infraction point given.

Hunter… jumped the gun offered one, was actually told this by a officer , then realised, Owner and myself after a little work by myself it was still owned by the MOD and was NOT SOC.so a no no,

Whirlwind .. was trying for one as there was lots of derelict airframes about
    but to no avail,

engine… had storage, and help, but storage facility became Unavailable due to land dispute,

This also caused problems for complete cockpits due to size ,

Provost, yes my friend owns one, and i have helped out, but was “ASKING” the complecations of GRP.. and decided after advice it was a no go.

Manky Su22.. you mean Su 7 .. Soviet fighter etc, NO SPARES apart from a few instruments or AP’s that could be understood to finish the task,it would have never been finished, the parts are even hard to find in eastern european countries, this i was told by a Polish Museum Volunteer who worked on a Su7 .

Museum… this was nothing to do with me on the whole, i was a spokesperson for it, and due to land dispute, i am the one looking a fool.because it didnt come to fruition.

Brigand… I was Investigating WHERE if anywhere i could find the plans, for JUST the instrument panel not build a whole brigand.. bloody iddiot .

Master.. being made of wood, and with alot of them which have crashed, i thought in time with my experiance, and friends in aviation archaeology i could build 1/4 cockpit from windscreen to floor panel, including panels, stick and rudder, hard items to be found during LICENCED digs, after investigation.. stick rudder etc.. probably taking years to complete.. but this i actually think I can do.. and have allready started buying bits and bobs, and i will continue, I was looking into this WAY BEFORE the said throttle box came on to ebay by the way ! .

People like you make me even more determined to prove you wrong, i have had a run of bad luck, some could say quite a bad state of affairs, and lots of personal family problems too in the last 6 months, infact the worst i have had to deal with to date. each dream has been ******** up due to losing job,my wife, money problems with bank, all sorts of things just came at the wrong time ,just as i was going to finish the deal and actually aquire something..

I may not have a plane, or cockpit, but have spent the last five years collating a books worth of information and newspaper clippings , witness reports/photo’s of air crashes from 1946 to 1970 enough to make a book, so i have been busy, i dont just spout out rubbish on the forum for the sake of it, I ask because i dont know, and value people’s opinions ,and advice.

Yes I am a dreamer, but at least i am trying.. and i WILL get there, eventually .. and bullying, nasty , remarks from the likes of you , and your arrogance , wont get me down.. you must have nothing better to do, than ridicule , and put down people who at least are trying.. and as the old saying goes, if at first you dont succeed try ,try , try and try again … and I am, and i am damned well going to prove you wrong sir !!:rolleyes:

I like this forum, and there are alot of very decent ,and nice people on here .. Sadly there is also lots of people from time to time , who are so full of there own importance and arrogance it beggers belief,
I wont be bullied, I am at least trying. with little or no funds, and now a single parent … which makes things all the harder.

Thanks for such a informative and helpful post as you have put above

    Regards
    C
    :eek::mad::rolleyes:

    Ps
I know my spelling is Crap.. but never mind.. we cant all be perfect like your good self .

another silly question, or not so silly ,but perhaps someone can answer me??

being the miles master was pretty much entirely made of wood, was the instrument panel made of wood, or was it the normal Aluminium 3mm sheet type as used in various other aircraft ??.. I only ask due to the aircraft being almost entirely made of wood.. apart from engine, controls U/C and ancillary parts

Talking of Chipmunks …Did any of you out there ever fly in chippie’s WP838 and WK610 of Bristol UAS … Ive got a small piece of WP838 which a local farmer gave me, they were both involved in a air collision in September 1967 Near Portishead ,Bristol. would be nice to hear from anyone who flew these two aircraft, the crash is talked about now and again at village functions. infact WK610 is pretty much where she dived in , in on bog land near Walton in Gordano, which is now a nature reserve, I believe at the time the MOD could not retrieve the wreckage, as for WP838 she went down into the side of a hill, less than a mile away and burnt out, I hasent to add, Both crews Baled out 😀

Yes, it’s the same Sea Balliol sections StuartH and I inspected there a few days ago.
Williamsons still own the yard, so anything taken without their permission would be theft. Wish I’d bought the Sea Fury cockpit (seat, walls, instruments, controls, windshield etc) that was there just a few years ago…

Now THAT would be interesting to see.. a Fury cockpit … never knew it existed..wonder where that went ??… love to see a pic of that one 🙂

just a silly thought…. but i wonder if the fury cockpit was buried?? with the other junk, in the qaurry ???.. just a thought ! ?

the first cockpit i actively tried for was a meteor busted to bits…. on a gunnery range.. as i was told they wanted to move airframes from such places, but….. it never happened…got so far up the chain of command, then it just stopped, 🙁 ..

I agree with all you say john, she sparked my interest as i found a few lightning bits in the shed, thats all, 😀

SHe is Miles away from me, the other side of the country infact so I didnt even know she was in a scrap yard, 😮

i remember some scrap yards years ago, things never moved on, they only moved on, when the yard closed down, or they became a liability .. hopefully one day someone might have the time trouble and money to restore something of her ,
