OK,I didn’t know Roy Coates was telling me when he bought his Seahawk
it cost him around £300 and he was spitting chickens at that price. And I know it was 3 years ago, but i was offered a single seat Venom, pod, with canopy and some bits a pieces in it for £600 but i had just lost my job(redundunt) so I couldn’t have it.A the same time, I was offered a complete Mig21 cockpit from Poland for £1000, but I had to collect it in person (in Poland) and yet as I say, I had just been made redundant. I had been looking for months and as the calls came in, I go and loose my job, just bad luck i suppose. I would kill for that chance again! I tell you,the Mig had ALL of its clock in it and had just been cut, £1000.I hate to think what that is worth now, that’s inflation for you eh, Haha.
Who’s Stavertons Cockpit? (Staverton in Glos) or Mr Staverton?
I didn’t realise there was one.Whats the gen on it?Do you know any more ??
Although I suppose I should hold my horses for a smaller type, as if I can get it in my mums double garage, then I have my compressor all the air tools, sand blaster and tools galore and I can pop in and out as I please. An hour every night after work etc.Just ease of work that’s all and its dry and NO I don’t live at mum’s but close by and it would get me away from the trouble and strife for a few hours 😀
Thanks
Thank you all for your advice.I have asked also most of the ATC units that have aircraft listed on “Demobbed” aircraft,is this a good route to go down ??You are right though size does matter,(excuse the pun) hence why the search for a single seater,Vampireor Seahawk are about the smallest, hence why I would kill for a Vampire FB5 I know these things only come along now and again and as much as I would love a Canberra, the size is a factor. I suppose like an idiot I thought a Hunter would be easy to get hold of and I was disheartened when I realised its not that easy. The only other cockpit I tried to acquire but negotiations fell through, was the derelict Mig 19 that used to be used by Martin Bakers.i just thought it so rare and i love Migs, especailly early ones. Does anyone know if any of the cockpits were saved from the T-33 s that were at Spadeadham, found in a scrapyard, recently??
Will keep my ear to the ground. Just sold my Car so thats another £550 towards a project.
I would give it away now if i had something to buy with it as i do want a project, something that i can repaint, and buy the instruments for etc etc,
Would £550 get me a Hunter cockpit Hulk ????:D
Sorry
Sorry I went off on a tangent, blew a gasket. I’ve been belittled all my life
and I felt I was being talked down too.I realise really it was just advice. Sorry David and all,
my temper runs away with me sometimes Gutted about the Ebay thing though,I am always on it I never saw the Hunter. 😮
please, there is no need for that
Please, there’ no need to get snotty with me. I don’t expect hunters off the shelf and never intended to cause offence or start an argument.
David you are a renowned person in the aviation field. I have tried looking. Infact 10 years of looking and yes I have missed my chances but i have also written many times to no avail to the DSA and various organizations asking please if something come up. Then I asked kindly if I could be notified. Perhaps i’ve been going the wrong way about it I dont know? I am certainly not an expert.Say for instance I was interested in something on a dump like say the Canberra at Manston fire school, how should I approach gov’t bodies to let them know I am an interested when the aircraft remains become available? I still feel (and it is not only me), that most people are blanked. There is a Clique in this country and that its not what you know, but who you know. If your an established Museum, or famous aviation collector, then you “may” be in that clique, I don’t know I am just another nobody who loves aircraft. Yes I am sorry to moan, but you don’ know me at all and you don’t know how hard I have looked over the years and all the help and free time I’ve given to the odd project and historical research and I will continue and I am happy to do so. I just find it disheartening thats all when aircraft, helicopters are sold to Paintball parks, etc. Look at the Canberra at Filton (now submerged)that wasn’t on e-bay,here today gone tomorrow.I had asked nicely to be kept on file when she was disposed of.OK I am an idiot, please give me an idiots guide.
Let’s say I want to BUY a wreck from Predannick or a Mystere from Spadeadham,
Who do I ask? How do i go about it and more importantly, how do i get noticed and acknowledged? Even when the aircraft has sat there for years slowly decaying and is no longer used, its just “There” because its always been “There”. How do you get the authorities who own it say yes ok we will sell on these conditions etc? You tell me how? I am as big a fool as any man and I don’t profess to know the proper procedures and chains of command to get someone to listen to me. All I am asking is HOW do i do it ??
Please don’t take offence because I am novice at how to acquire an aircraft.
I appologise from the start for my spelling , but my laptop keys keep sticking,
unless i bash em really hard , sorry for any inconveniance, iam not dislexic
😮 😉 😉
hold ya Horses there men,
as i said Hold your horses there men, last thing we wanna do is go bull at a gate and scare the farmer half to death, not to mention the council and planning office ,this needs to be doe with tact, slowly slowly catch the monkey as the saying goes, I am thrilled at you enthusiasm ,but this really needs to be a gentle transition from complete dump to live small airfield,
to Museum, and with the enthusiasm i have had to date i Know it will be a success, But i gotta be careful here, farmer is up for it, but can you imagine if overnight buildings went up plane arrived ,loads of people,it could terrify him, and the local authorities, but i am sure if he sees it being done properly
and it is working he will be more than pleased to let it grow, I am only dealing with the Museum as and when it arives,i am the lesser of the reasons for this airfield, main reason is as a runway and hanger, to fly the Provost from, and this comes with it, my mate deals with the farmer, and the live flying side, and i get a CORE band of men together for the planning of the initailly small
museum,at the same site, Static aircraft and the like arrive later when things are set up,anyone who GENUINLY wants to help set this up AS A EQUAL
please step forward, this will happen, but will take a little time, and sensibility,
when we have the main building blocks in set in stone, so to speak, ten we go hell for leather, but please Gentlemen, play it softly ,
gathering info ,finding a suitable building, even if it be a portacabin for startersand the main thing, clearing out the land making it nice and tidy for this dream to happen, anyone who knows me knows i am genuine, and try to say it how it is,and fair,
its hard work but its got to be worth it ,for everybody to enjoy,
KInd regards
Chris Collins:D 😀

Swagging
Thanks Gareth,
yep its Swag city out there, “There all after me lucky charms “
its definately a bloody tall order:eek: , but the chance is there and Paul will get something done , Its got to be secure ,thats the main proirty, after the clean up, but farmers got a JCB it should’nt take long to clear that mess up,
“And i am not doing it alone”, allready got some good help, really chuffed with the overwhelming offers for help by good people on this Forum, and thanks to yourself for the offer of nice trinkets for display as a when we get a secure unit ,might start with a portacabin type thing for small trinkets on display and history, all the little swag parts/photos etc etc, Its great that now there is somewhere for some of the meteor T.7 wh194 swag to go,especailly as it as where she was based,i reckon parts from a nice supermarine Attacker would look nice in there,if you know what i mean:D ,you know the one, just hope you havent binned all of the andersea farm Gash that was found, thats on there doorstep,
I will certainly for my part be looking for more jet fighters, oh and i have located the sabre at yoevilton, thanks original news paper reports, we got to investigate that one, and if lucky contact MOD for a licence, also MOD has put me on the shortlist for the Meteor at sennybridge, if it ever gets disposed of , so theres a start, Just all that hard work setting it all up 🙁 Groan, still its worth it in the end 😀
1950s WZland
just found this on wikepedia,
hope it is of help,
“There was virtually no further flying at Weston Zoyland until the summer of 1952 when, to meet the Soviet threat. an increase in the RAF’s strength and a demand for more aircrews found Meteors and Vampires operating in a training role.
Canberra squadrons were present during the mid 1950s when Weston Zoyland was used as a work-up station prior to overseas assignments.
By 1958 the station was once more deserted of aircraft and, although retained by the Air Ministry for another ten years, it never reopened for military flying”
Good advice Pagen, ive taken it off, anyone out there please e-mail me, and i will get back to you with my full details
Tower,
No sorry i am afraid the tower etc is on the “Other” side of the airfield
We dont have much apart from the Runway and a lot of Concrete hardstanding, and a large brick cow shed, But you never know what the future holds, We gotta band together on this one, and “ACT” or if the farmer sees no interest, it wont look to good would it,.i know its going to take a long time, but i propose anyone interested to e-mail me, and then i will set a date on a very near future weekend to all meet up, to discuss it, and look at what there is to be done, Once again guys ,Thanks so much for your support and help, to be honest i dont know where to turn , its gonna be hard juggling all this with my work life, but i can see it happening ,we just cant let this oportunity slip from our grasp, Thanks again guys your support is a exellent Boost:D 😀 🙂

Very rough guide to land that can be used
Hi all,
here is a rough guide to the land that could be used for a museum, although it could be more, it is all the east side of the airfield and hlf of the main runway, which is concrete and in pretty good condition, but as for the area where the buildings are to be put up, well its a real mess, needs scraping
clearing of 20 + years of debris, and the building is nothing specail, its a old cow shed, built of concrete blocks, but this is my mates main concern so he can get the provost under cover ,the land next to it is way big enough to put a nissan or something and plenty of room for aircraft, from what i can gather, there will be NO rent charges for aircraft on display, etc, but thats a long way off, the place needs lots of work before exhibits can arrive,if any small groups want to have a small corner then that is fine, it all adds to the eventual museums and local historys good, anyone who wants to put there name down or talk further can email me at cstuka@hotmail.co.uk
I would be very pleased to hear from you,
Kind regards
Chris Collins
Sorry all, i am having problems downloading a pic off of my pc to show you the area, howevor its the east end of the airfield,
