javelin,
Shame , the old jav isnt among us anymore,
they got a very nicely painted static at staverton on display, shame they couldnt get her running , even just a fast taxi:D
my favourite for the skys !!
I am too young like many too remember them, but from what ive been told they were, extremely LOUD , i would choose a Gloster Javelin to fly again over the south wests skys again,
Failing that a Dornier flying pencil, (no there isnt any left i believe) simply because of its use in the battle of britain,
Oh and the stuka JU87 B , just to annoy the HSE man at the shows, By diving from great hieghts towards the crowds, with its sirens wailing, then chase it around a bit with the Hurri’s,
last but not least any british Early war Bomber, Hampden.whitley, wellington,
as a tribute to early Bomber Command, “Cor” a flying stirling now theres something we will never see, well i doubt it,
meteor
Which one you talking about? I was refering to the one on the farm with Sea Hawk, Vamp etc 🙂
Jon
😮 , Oh Sorry, i thought you were talking about the Meteor at Sennybridge
Range ,
yep i fully agree the one on the farm is WH166, a T.7, , Oh what a shame,
she is a gorgeous bird, just rotting, such a shame
the one on the sennybridge range is a F8, or at least i think it is ? 😀
T7, ?
😮 😮 ,
oops , I was sure it was a F8 because of the cockpit, isnt a T7 a 2 seater ??
or is this a hybrid ??
from memory in the book , it was stated as a F8, but i havent seen the book for some time,
and as for the Mystere IVA cockpit, well, ive never seen one, not in private anyways, ?
would love to see pics of that one ,
thanks for correcting me though, 😮 😉
meteor
Ive written to the DSA, who deal with disposal,
because really the C/O would have to put it to them anyway, as they deal with all the disposal of MOD equiptment,
I have put in a offer for the Meteor, its a F8
but as of yet have heard nothing back,
also be aware of any aircraft built under the lend lease agreement,
Ie T-33s and Mystere’s you might get given one, but you could also get a knock on the door where the american military would insist it is scrapped ,
I would love a mystere, and it would be a first cockpit wise, theres a few about, and it was quite a record breaker in its day,
Thankyou for your help,Bucc society, its kind of you to keep me in mind ,
i got a few mtes also in the “loop” so to speak,
like you say, patience ,
thanks
chris C
Nice
Nice one Andy,
I take it thats the one youve restored, whats your next project in the pipeline then,
I must admit that i was in control of the batterys, when we had the run up, although i couldnt resist chucking my mate out of the cockpit so i could give it a bit of gentle throttle,
Crackles a pops like a bastXXXrd , but dont they sound nice,
When you gonna get yourself a R2800 then, Now that would be a brute, or a Centaurus, Only thing is youd need a trailer the size of a lorry to weight the thing down, Haha ,
😀
I think it’s gonna be a case of… “move along to the back of the queue sir” , but what’s your budget ?
.
Hi, Nice work youve been doing, as for my budget it will be around the £1000
ish ,
and as for waiting at the back of the que, Well , really , Ive been lokking for the Past 10 to 15 years, for the right one to come along, and i allways seem to miss it,so i should be at the very front of the que, Ive spent years helping others, with time and parts, and research, so now i could do with something of my own, its all very well helping everybody, but sadly Aviation has gotten pretty ruthless the last few years, and i think now its more about big bucks and not the passion,Its the modern way of the world i suppose,
did you see my mates Provost starting up on the link i put in, sounds nice does’nt she, WV499,
as ive said i missed out, first one was Sea hawk from flowers yard, (bruntys got it,and offered it to me but i couldnt afford it at the time,)
next was a Mig 21 cockpit complete with all dials etc, from Babimost in Poland,(i had to pick up, ) but i was made redundant, and not long after that a Single seat Venom was offered, (whilst i was still redundant) since then, Nowt, and being as i am only interested in 40s-50s-60s jets, and limited on size(hence wh ive not bought a canberra) ive not managed to find one ,
By the way i am not having a go, Just letting you know the struggle i have had to find one,
kind regards
Chris C
OOOh were building the same,
😡 At the Mo i want to do a rear panel, I know where i can get a meteor too, and nearly had it ,but the Bloody top brass wouldnt allow it, the F8 at sennybridge, planes shot to bits but the cockpit could be saved,
I am actively seeking a cockpit, but it has to be a single seater, and it has to be a Meteor(Drool, i wish ) Vampire , Venom, or a early Hunter, But its like banging my head aginst the wall, as when i got the money, theres no one willing to sell, and when i have no money three pop up at once , bloody mr bad luck, Ive even gone so far as to research crashed ones, and obtain a licence for a recovery, (loads in the hole) it was a bale out ,
Bloody bangin me head against a wall, How many others feel like that out there, and then theres some people with Whole collections who just keep getting Bigger a Bigger !!, Leave some for the little people eh ,,
Cheers
Chris C
oh and as for that meteor, vampire, hunter, seahawk, etc etc, Ahem (preserved0/Dumped, at a Farm in Birlingham, well its criminal, i keep looking at it and Just the chance to own one of them, would be a lifetimes ambition,
but its not illegal to buy a plane and let it rot, or so they keep telling me,
even the poor old Vampire there has collapsed !!!
😡
one word, “Gutted”,
Sennybridge meatbox
I treid to aquire the wreck years ago, and nearly succeded until this bloody colonel said NO,
I was hoping to restore her, cockpit, and give the rest to the meteor flight,
and take to shows, promoting the meteors work in the Korean war, and raising money for veteran,
as far as i am aware she is still there, ,And yes i still want that airframe badly, Where else am i to find a Meatbox ??
for me if it isnt modern airliners, its cessna light aircraft a the like, nothing like a tiger moth,a bit like trains really,a steam engine compared to a box on wheels,(diesel)
theres no finesse these days:(
You would surprised what can be picked up from scrap dealers, some engines are not expensive especialy radials, I have seen several running examples for under £1000. I once imported 15 meteors from the Netherlands for under £500each.
can i still get good stuff like this Graham??
wouldnt mind a meteor too to work on exept i would keep it in its Tank specification,
they powered the churchill,Comet, and Centurian, a ww2 nice engine, would have to put short exhaust stacks on though, it wouldnt be right not too,
ive seen empire trading selling whole meteors for about £1000,:D troublee is there in australia:(
pounds yard
i went there about 2 years, mainly boat stuff and those nice 14″ guns, oh and a set of ships ww2 american 20mm pompom guns with the barrels bent, and a boxed replica 88mm gun from band of brothers, other than that,no aircraft stuff there at the time
and yes gareth a spitfire it is , 1/72 scale £4.99 at toys r us or 2 for 6 quid,:diablo: 😀
SORRY
I know i was being sarcastic, it was like if he was good at snooker i would have said he made “Steve Davis ” look lke a amatuer, or football ,Beckham, or invention and science i would have picked Einstien !! 🙁
i was being ironic, yes i appreciate mr Vizzard is one of the best and will allways be so,and famous others ,
if you read into it i actually named Steve Vizzard because he was/is one of the best, 😀
God your a touchy lot,any body think i had Blasphemed , next you will be shouting “STONE HIM” 😮 😮 🙁
Sorry
Having been involved in various ways with aviation archaeology for thirty eight years I think I am well placed to distinguish between the “amateurs” and the “professionals”. Steve V and colleagues amateurs? Don’t think so, old chap. Some were doing this kind of work before some of those commenting were even born or out of their prams! 😀
it wasnt meant as a insult, yes the old diggers were a special breed,
and well respected,
but this guy is very good, and considering the eyewitnesses arent around like they were in the 70s ,he isnt doing bad, please ,it was just a light hearted comment
