RE: QANTAS TO BUY SHARE IN AIR NZ

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-11-02 AT 06:58 PM (GMT)]I really cannot see Qantas leaving OneWord for Star,it is just pure speculation.

Qantas has a very close co-operation with British Airways with joint Singapore hub for Australia-Europe flights and code share agreements on the routes. Also close co-operation with American.

If you consider that American does not serve Australia, whereas United does with Star, then do you think Qantas wants to cut their frequencies on the lucrative Australia-US routes if they were to join Star? Then their is the problem of US regulations with the monopoly Star would have. Therefore,i’m sure joining Star would be a weight of problems for Qantas, however, with Oneworld they still have a big advantage.

With Air New Zealand joining OneWorld, what would the alliance gain?Nothing, what Qantas offer is effectively the same as Air New Zealand. I think NZ would be best off staying in Star.

    RE: Blended Wing-My Analysis!

The idea of the BWB is revolutionary for the aviation industry and would be a totally new concept for the airlines, which I could see as a gamble for Boeing.

From a manufactures point of view, the design is so daunting for Boeing alone. The aircraft is a considerable technical challenge in building. Also the problems involved in building such an aircraft and the enormous wingspan would also require airport infrastructure changes beyond what the A380 is demanding.I just think this is too much of a challenge for Boeing and would be very risky.

I do not consider that we will ever see this aircraft in the skies as a civil aircraft, however, maybe as a military in 10/15 years time.

From my own point of view I would hope aviation would never come to this. I think it is such an ugly aircraft. But, hey, it is not my choice, it is Boeing who gets the final say on whether this will be a success or not.

    RE: Euromanx competes with BA

Apparently when and if they acquire the old BA J41’s both airlines will receive six of the aircraft each consequently disposing of the whole J41 fleet. Moreover, this will be period in which both Euromanx and Eastern become BA franchises.

Eastern makes sense, as it is a well run, profitable regional airline. Euromanx makes less sense; however, I could see the benefits BA especially with the Liverpool route. The basis of the BA regional routes is to feed on to the other larger airports (LHR, LGW, MAN, and BHX) but LPL doesn’t offer any BA connecting flights. A franchise agreement there between the two airlines could occur in the future which could see BA pull out of LPL altogether and leave EuroManx on the route.

However, BA seems to be streamlining their regional franchises at the moment, anymore seem to weaken the overall BA product so I’m not sure if this is all just rumour.

Just the same as the current Air Tran c/s, the only new addition is the ‘Connect’.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-11-02 AT 04:48 PM (GMT)]Yup I heard about this around three weeks ago :7 Thanks…

The flights are interesting and a definite good piece of news for the airport which is loosing airlines quicker than it is gaining them. Last time they were in at JER was the summer of 1999 with their flights to DUB (the year I got to travel on their flight), however, these did not return for the next summer because of the trouble EI was in.

The fact there are flights on TUE,THU and SAT is very good because when they were last at JER they only had flights on SAT.This is going to be more appealing to tourists as Jersey is increasingly becoming popular as a short break destination rather than your main holiday destination.

I would like to take advantage of these flights because I think EI is a wonderful airline, but with the cost of inter island travel and the fares to DUB,it would just be too expensive.A shame!Anyway,I will be lucky enough to see them on my annual spotting trip in the summer.

They will also start flights to Lisbon and Bologna.

LGW will still get the Air Atlanta 747s in as well I would think?
