    RE: AF Hijack

Well any apparent hijacking attempt on an aircraft is a cause for concern, however, I do not think the threat was too serious.
I think it could of just been a dispute and a bit of revenge on another passenger.Another Moroccan man was sitting next to the ‘attempted hijacker’ and seemingly owed him money which could of been the root of the problem.

RE: GARUDA TO SUSPEND EUROPEAN FLIGHTS

Well it is bad news that they are suspending their European flights.

Could the Hadj services be off any influence to the European suspension? This is an obvious lucrative market for Garuda and i’m sure they would probably make more money on them rather than their European flights.Instead of them leasing equipment for the flights, they can save some of the money by using the aircraft which should of been on the European flights.Just a thought…

But anyway,it is bad news that the flights have been suspended. The situation in Indonesia doesn’t help.I only hope that maybe the flights could be restarted in the future, however, they are not exactley reliable anymore for travel companies.

RE: The other UK Southeast Airports

Passenger services at Southend are pretty limited. The only airline I can think is Flybe on the summer JER and GCI flights.Other than that there are business charters, quite a few cargo flights and also crew training and some painting jobs.

Shoreham is a light aviation airport.I can only think of Skytrek as an operator to Le Troquet but they went under.I think there may be a few business jets as well.

Lydd has been trying to attract new operators as a solution to over crowding at the London Airports but so far they’ve been unsuccessful.Only airline there is Lyddair.

Manston has alot of cargo,747s etc.Cruise flights are also in operation from Dover back to the USA.Aurigny operate JER charters in the summer.Other than that there are no regular scheduled flights, but it probably is the most exciting out of the 4!

If the EZY takeover of dba goes ahead then they will obviously have a bigger presence in Germany, though we haven’t heard much about that latley so I don’t know what is happening.

With regards to Italy, before EZY took over GO it was quite surprising why they didn’t offer Italian destinations. However, with Easyjet now merged with GO,they offer Bologna, Milan,Naples,Rome and Venice and the same in Germany with Munich.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-11-02 AT 07:20 PM (GMT)]Quite a selection of airports there which recieve flights to/from Algeria, I never imagined it to be so large. I suppose because of the large Algerian population in France, it is vital for many airports to have links to the Northern African countries, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
It must be quite interesting seeing all these North African carriers at the French airports!Rather different to other European airports…

Pleasing to see tourists returing to Bali.Bali’s tourism industry will definitely recover and return to normal in a few years times.

Anyway, best of luck to them.Hopefully their flights will be successful.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-11-02 AT 04:48 PM (GMT)]Great to see more airlines at MAN.Qatar and Air Algerie are some good new arrivals.
Presumably,Strasbourg is another popular destination from Algeria. How many French airports are now linked to Algeria?I’m interested to find out…
    Thanks for the news.

What is the likelihood of EuroManx expanding? I’ve heard a few rumours of local interest but i’ve heard nothing of late. Are there any new destinations or aircraft in the pipeline?

    RE: The “Prestige” sank

An absolute environment catastrophe. We can only hope the worst od the oil slicks do not hit the Spanish coast.I feel extremely sorry for all the people who have near enough had their livliehoods ruined or damaged.
They even say as far as western Bretagne and the Channel Islands could be hit by some oil slicks if the currents change.I really do hope not.

RE: Russian Flag Carrier Chooses Airbus!

Great news for Airbus.I can’t wait to see the A319/20s in the Aeroflot livery! I’m guessing these aircraft are replacing the 734s?

It is actually quite sad for Tupolev and other CIS carriers. With another Russian opting for western Europe aircraft, this is just another nail in the coffin especially for Tupolev who surely could of marketed the TU-204 to Aeroflot?Yet because they lack finance they could not meet any demand in a large order for these aircraft…sad.

Isn’t bmi cutting IAD and just keeping ORD on their routes from MAN?So really there is no need for two A330s?
