Good for tourism though…there is only so long until the low cost boat leaves and the ones who miss out will really regret it. I’m not a fan of the low cost strategy but where credit is due, if a tourism industry is in danger of decline, then bringing in low cost operations is inevitable to hault the decline.

Do you think this could encourage Ryanair in?

Yeah this info is only a rumour so nothing is confirmed or denied. I know the 146s were supposed to be leaving the fleet but that is all I knew about possible fleet changes. The whole thing does seem a bit strange, however, I am sure more information will no doubt come out in the next couple of weeks.

Hmmm, airports I will use this year will be Istanbul, Ercan, Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton and probably Jersey.

Airlines-KTHY, Flybe., British Airways and Aurigny.

2001…CDG-JER on a BA Dash 8. On descent over the Cherbourg Peninsula we had to fly through some very dark and dense cloud. A lot of turbulence, hail stones against the windows etc, scary stuff! Once below the clouds you could see the sea was extremely rough so I knew that was a good indication that the landing would be bad! The pilot told us that he expected the landing to be bumpy so to sit tight. Coming over the east of the island the wind was catching us and we were being thrown all over the place until we eventually landed which involved a lot of manoeuvring around until we finally hit the runway quite hard. Worst thing was I had to catch the connecting flight back to GCI on a Trislander…less than impressive. Again it was very bumpy and again we got bashed and bumped around by the wind because those Trislanders are very vulnerable to the wind.
After we arrived I found out the islands had been hit by some terrible storms over the weekend when it was lovely and sunny in Paris!

Iraq Airways current is only allowed to operate flights within Iraq with international and domestic flights in the northern no fly zone banned. It would be highly interesting to see what would happen to them if a new Iraq was to emerge in the next few years.

Well they have the A340-600 on order so it would seem rather peculiar why they would be phasing out the aircraft. Probably just the older -200/300 versions.

Aer Lingus’ A330s are leased from ILFC; it could therefore be that if Aer Lingus is standardising their fleet, merely speculating, the 777 could be their preferred choice if they are looking into changing their longhaul fleet. However, what is the capacity like on the 777 compared to the A330? Would the aircraft be too large?

Alitlia’s colour scheme looks ok, however, the older aircraft and dirty aircraft do not do it any favours.

Well Aer Lingus have returned to profit so I would see a fleet renewal is probably a rather good idea while the conditions are good. Aer Lingus never technically finished working towards fleet commonality, although it was presumed that it was working with the A32X family. However, in fact it still has more Boeing 737s than Airbus in its fleet, so with Boeing able to take its older aircraft and standardise them with the 737NG family, Aer Lingus finally completes its goal of short haul commonality.

Economic conditions are rather good for Aer Lingus as well. With the current value of the dollar, it would make sense that they take advantage of this and also make use of cut prices from Boeing. Looking at other factors we see that American currently has the 737-800 ordered yet in its current position it could be wise for these to be transferred to Aer Lingus, its partner. Good for both American and Aer Lingus.

However, it is probable that he Irish Government could be pressurising Aer Lingus to buy Airbus considering Irelands place in the EU.

I think Florence itself has an airport T5, I can remember Meridiana operating Gatwick flights with a BAe 146.

    Webmaster,
I’m sorry to keep adding to the list of minor problems, but I seem to of lost around 100 posts as I am sure I was coming up to my 2200 post a while back, yet now I seem to be just over 2100, it might just be my memory but I am sure I had more. So if it is possible please could I have my post count adjusted if it is no problem. I don’t think i’m the only one with this problem, however, I do appreciate that there will be teething problems.

    Thanks.
