17/3 1618hrs Spitfire heading North West near Alton Hants, looked like merlin powered, without tailwheel, Mk8 perhaps?
Although I didnt have my specs on.

I was a visitor to Hendon as far back as to when it was still a transit camp in the late 60’s and the aircraft for the museum were just starting to arrive. One visit I made was when the Bev was half chopped, been once since.
It no longer has the live feel, its too much like a museum rather than airfield following the days flying.
Does anyone do any research into the people that visit there, how long do they spend looking at certain aircraft and artifacts, read explanaition boards, visit the shop and have some lunch.
The results might indicate why it has changed.

707 prototype VX784, Main gear Athena, nose leg Meteor.
707B VX790, Main gear Athena, nose leg Hawker P.1052.
Remainder of production look to be as VX790.

Some pictures of this aircraft are on the SVAS web site,
see here http://www.svasweb.org/news.php page down past the vehicle section news and you can see it, still with the remains of the green paint.

I hope those involved are ok, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I was in the circuit at Old Sarum when this turned up and landed, only had a distant view but it looked superb.

Sorry should have asked- can anyone identify these i.e. mark, squadron, where stationed etc. and any ideas on why my parents would have this picture. I don’t think it was anything to do with a Polish squadron & nothing to do with weather forecasting.
They are Vampire F1’s of 247 Sqn based at Odiham. Have a look here http://www.rafmuseumphotos.com/pictures_639853/De-Havilland-Vampire-FI.html, may even have been taken on the same photo sortie.

Yes.
The CAA only imposed restrictions after this incident

Which was the right thing to do. I presume the Duxford Firefly was under military jurisdiction when it crashed, with a second person on board.
I always feel very sad about that one. I stood and watched as it did its power checks before take off with the guy waving from the back. In my mind I was thinking of the porformance limitations due to the reduced power.

You can add the Whirlwind, Manchester,Skua, Roc,Botha,Barracuda, Lerwick and Warwick to the missing list of combat types. Loads more if you include none combat.

Wasnt the 109’s Undercarriage the German contribution to the allied war effort!

The GE engines fitted to Swiss Air Convair 990 Coronado’s were by far the smokiest visitors to LHR during the 70’s, it seemed especially odd that a country known for its clean living and healthy lifestyle operated an aircraft that left a thick black trail in the sky. You didnt need radar to plot their route, they left it marked in the sky. Later in their life 990’s benefitted by engine mods developed by GE that were designed to make F-4’s less easy to spot, better combustion cans I think. When Spantax operated 990’s they were much better.
In my younger days I spent many a happy! hour up JT3D jet pipes, getting covered in sticky black deposits, now look up a jet pipe on a modern engine and its as clean as a whistle.

Thats the one and only Comet 3 XP915. A moderate stretch over the mk1 and 2 but shorter than the 4. Was a RAE Bedford aircraft from 1961 to early 70’s used for Blind Landing trials, then to Woodford for Nimrod system work. Scrapped 87.

Powder coating was used on TVR car chassis, the sales patter when they were new was that it was the ultimate corrosion protection, now its a real problem with alot of cars suffering severe structural problems. As said earlier, the issue is that when the protective skin is breached moisture gets in and rust starts, with no outward signs, scrape the surface away and the tubes are rotting away. Do a search on TVR chassis corrosion, shows the result.
For a static restoration zinc coating is probably the best bet. Or an etch primer and hammerite.

It used to be on mine….!
Oh, and here is a Ju 88 canopy that I have recently “steered” in the direction of Shoreham. This came from a Ju 88 downed at The Jumps, West Tisted, Hants, on 15 August 1940 and I bought it a few years ago from a local resident. Glad that it now has a good home instead of my store!
Have you seen this relating to the shooting down of the Tisted Ju88. It mentions another aircraft, any ideas what that was? http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/67/a6043367.shtml

and since no American has ever heard of the Falklands, they decided to change the target slightly to somewhere in the middle east…
I dont think that would help, they dont know where that is either. Try Cuba its in their back yard.
