I got a cool Flybe Q400 at the Aviation Experience at BHX yesterday.
It’s not up to those standards as it only a plastic snap together, but I like it. It’s a 1:100 scale which makes it quite big. 🙂 It cost about £12.
I even got a spare prop just incase I break one because they are quite fragile. 😎

Indeed it was and a first visit it was too, there was another one in as well (EI-MAX).

That first BA 757 we clocked was as I thought the same reg as my recently acquired Gemini model (G-BPEJ). 😀

I wonder if I’ve got a picture of your flight Martin ? A BA 737 perchance, did you note the reg ?

Anyhow… All in all it wasn’t too bad a day despite the weather, the disruptions, the police and the lack of traffic to see. The day was rounded off in Garfunkels’s Bar with a swift ale and a Andy sold me a rarther attractive Lufthansa Star Alliance 744 model.

Sorry you never got to see any Zoom 767’s Andy, they were in today and also a Balkan flight, try a Friday next time (lol).

I left the guys to sit out the delay for the return to Heathrow, I’m sure they’ll be along soon with all the details. 😀

Up at the next emergency gate, you can get some reasonable shots of aircraft approaching the hold point before turning onto 23 for takeoff. Again it’s through fencing and this particular gate has some boarding on it as well. Bit of a pain but that’s BAA for you ?

I always suffer from a lack of horizontal control shooting through fences for some reason ? :confused:

Just as we were about to call it a day and vacate the mound, we noticed a poilce van or two arriving in the playing field. The vans contained police dogs and their handlers. Nothing unusual in this as they normally take the dogs there to give then a runaround for exercise purposes.

Unfortunately for us, two of the cops decided to give us a bit of the old “wots all this then ?” treatment and summoned us down off of the mound.

The usual response from the police is to say, “you shouldn’t really be here, it’s a wee bit dangerous, please move on” This lot decided to go for the full interrogation bit. They took us to their van, took our names and addresses, searched our bags, muttered something about terrorism and “dangerous times” and tried to run our details through the computer back at the station.

We could overhear on their radio that the verification system was working as succesfully as the NATS computer at West Drayton. At this point the main protagonist started to mutter something about taking us to the nearest nick or handing us to the airport police to further verify our identity ! 😮

I don’t suppose three guys holding bincs, cameras and notebooks in a well used spotting spot means a lot to the regular airport cops, who know all the usual faces, but these “out of town” bobbies obviously had too much time on their hands. 😡

So much for BAA’s spotter patrol idea ! 🙁
