Batbay, search for Irfanview on the forum. Many people have mentioned it before, including myself. It’s on here somewhere!
Go to http://www.irfanview.com and download the programme (it’s free). Once installed you can use it to view,sharpen, change colours, brightness,gamma contrast etc. and most importantly compress the file sizes to fit onto here and into e-mails.
Once installed click on “file” in the top left corner to open a picture from “My Pictures” on the hard drive. Then click on “image” two options to the right. This opens up a host of options including “resize-resample”.
Click on this and either manually type in the size required or use one of the options on the right. I normally check “800×600” for posting on here as that size fits the page format nicely.
Then click “OK” and save the picture by going back into “File” and selecting either “Save” to save and overwrite it to it’s original file source, or “Save As” to select a different name or file destination for the altered picture.
You will be offered a quality setting option when you save, it’s up to you to experiment with this to find a level that keeps your pictures under 100k for posting. I find that 75% usually works if you can’t keep them under 100k at 100% quality setting.
