Well Ian, in that case I certainly witnessed your landing, but as I was in the photographical nonentity that is TFS terminal I wouldn’t have bothered trying to take a picture through two, yes two individual sheets of dust coated glass, separated from each other by roughly 20 feet. Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrghhhh!
Talk about rubbish? After I checked in (40 mins) I was advised to go straight to security as this procedure could also take 40 mins. It only took two goes through the metal detector and about 5 mins. Once I was through, there was no going back. Upstairs in the terminal, the two “viewing” areas appeared to be closed off, the automatic doors were in fact, crudely disabled with some kind of twine around the handles.
I wandered from one end of the terminal to the other looking for a photo opportunity and with the help of my polarising filter, shot one or two nose shots through the double glazing. I was getting very hungry and ventured off into the dark labyrinth that is the TFS food court. No sooner had I ordered a pizza slice and coca cola, then it was time to embark, via gate 14 to the bus that would drive us around and across the tarmac to the Globespan 733 (TF-ELC) that was waiting to take me home.
The 15 min delay was in my opinion caused by the failure of Globespan’s admin department to communicate a paid for request by a customer for two wheelchairs and assistance, to the appropriate people at TFS. Once this had been settled we moved along smoothly, eventually.
I was placed in seat 17D and unfortunately next to the obligatory drunken w*nkers in footie jerseys who eventually were barred from the drinks trolley. I did my very best to avoid venting my opinion on their opinions for the four hours and forty minutes of the flight.
Many thanks to the cabin crew for dealing with them so professionally. It was also nice of the ground staff at GLA to put their luggage onto the carousel last.
Flightwise, I’d certainly say that Globespan are a nice bunch to fly with. The cabin crew are amongst the most pleasant, down to earth and non patronising I’ve come across. It’s a good example of a budget airline doing things well. I’ve no idea of how they are viewed from within the airline business, but from my point of view they get a big thumbs up. I’ll be back.
