What are they Mark, is there an ATP in there by any chance ?
Nice ! 😀
On a DC-10 flight my nearest convenience was the one right at the cabin door, the area became so congested at one point that the cabin staff had to ask people to stand aside in order to open the cockpit door whilst attempting to serve the flight crew with coffee and teas.
For a few minutes the door was left wide open as the flight attendant went to get a couple of meals for the cockpit and the captain indulged in a brief conversation with those of us in the pee queue. This was only a year or so ago as well.
The point being that the international ATC language is considered to be English. They made some examples of cases of near misses and crashes caused by either the non use of English, in the case of the CDG collision, or poor understanding of English, as in the case of the Khazakstani radio operator, who took 17 seconds to respond to an instruction from Delhi ATC to remain at 15000 feet.
This time delay led to the plane descending into the path of the Saudi 747 which had just left the airport.
In the case of the Air Lib/Streamline collision, the AF pilot’s had rejected just 8 days earlier an edict from management to speak English whilst talking to ATC at the airport, stating that they would be “abandoning their native tongue”.
The problem arose because international pilots using the taxi and runways couldn’t work out where the French speaking planes were and became distracted by the use of “native tongue” amongst French pilots and ATC. The ATC would speak English to international pilots but insisted in speaking French amongst AF (and other) pilots.
The Streamline Shorts 330 was cleared to enter a runway whilst an Air Lib plane was commencing it’s take off run. The Air Lib plane’s wing tip sliced through the cockpit of the Shorts at approximately 90 degrees, killing one pilot and badly injuring the other The surviving Streamline pilot said had they understood that the Air Lib plane would be there, the accident would not have happened.
Despite the death of the UK pilot, the decision to use native tongue amongst French flight and ATC staff was not overturned.
….
A couple of A.net pictures illustrating the 32″ seat pitch in the economy class section of Aer Lingus A330-200. A very comfortable flight indeed in my opinion, PTV’s as well. Shame about the messy passengers ! :p
Fair point LBA, again maybe the options for him were slim ?

I thought it was an excellent programme and very thought provoking. That indian guy must not let much bother him if after that happened he just carried on as normal and was still working in ATC.
I got the impression it wasn’t through choice but necessity, as the narrator said “He still had planes to land”.
You’d think a maritime museum would have been better for this location (lol) 😀
The people living nearby must have right laugh everytime they bring in a new exhibit… Imagine popping out for a quiet walk on a Sunday morning for the papers to meet this coming up your lane ?
Like this….
If you look at the Sinsheim Museum website you’ll see that a lot of the aircraft exhibits are mounted in a “flight mode” style on long poles outside the main building.
So knowone will be able to actually board it for a look inside presumably ? Unless they bring a climbing rope and crampons. :p
Has anyone seen the Concorde on display at Sinsheim ? Will it end up on the roof like this Tuploev 144 ?
Will look out for those…;)
