Probably to stop kids poking their eyes out or stabbing their younger siblings with them ? 😎

I The most dissappointing thing is that despite a father of two losing his life it still wasn’t deemed important enough by Air France pilots to use a common language.
I think the look on his wife’s face at the end of the interview said it all. The AF pilot’s argued that they were being forced to abandon their mother tongue, (or perhaps that the accepted international language wasn’t to their liking) . I think that’s arrogance in the extreme. Presumably if international ATC language was French they wouldn’t have been so upset about it.
I also felt the French authorities acted in extreme bad taste when they arrested the other Streamline pilot in hospital whilst still coming round from the operation that saved his life. Needless to say the charges were dropped and ATC eventually took the blame for the accident.
Back to the Saudi/Khazakstan collision. I thought the two planes were flying at a distance of 10,000 feet apart, The inbound Khazak Ilyushin was cleared to 15000 feet and the Saudi 747 was cleared to climb to 14000 so yes a 1000 foot gap doesn’t leave much room for error. 😮
The account of the collision as given by a nearby USAF transport pilot was particularly harrowing I felt.

Why did they cross the Atlantic if they detected the problem after take off ?
I can’t believe there are ATC systems anywhere still that don’t display altitude information to the controller as was the case in India. It’s fair enough verbally relating this info to the necessary parties, but as the documentary pointed out, if they (the aircraft crews) think you said descend when you said climb and there’s only 10,000 feet of breathing space between two fast moving airliners then something’s bound to go wrong eventually.
At first I thought the programme was a little harsh on the AF pilots for wanting to speak in their native tongue to fellow French controllers at Paris-CDG. Then when you saw the result of what not using a uniform language turned out to be with the death of the UK Shorts 330 pilot on the runway, I felt they were being more than a little arrogant.
Well these two will still be flying for a while (in my house anyway), new models I got today from http://www.ba.com 😀
Just as a way of keeping the Concorde retirement debate going, I was wondering what people’s views on the retiral events were. Obviously BA are doing the UK tour and AF have sent their’s round airshows and museums but what would you like to see done to mark the permanent grounding of the plane ?
Personally I’d like to see a formation flypast of a number of Concorde’s painted up in all the liveries she’s been in. That would be all the BA schemes, The AF, the Singapore side and the BAC/Sud Aviation house colours. More pitstops on the UK tour would be good too I.E GLASGOW!!!!!
There’s no mention anywhere of what scale they are ? They could be 1/400th like the Gemini’s or perhaps slightly smaller… 1/450th perhaps ?
I’ve done the same shot as you A330 Crazy comparing it to the A340-600 model we both have. I stuck the Concorde on top of a pile of nickels to replicate the approx height of the undercarriage.
Whaddy ya reckon ?
These little beauties arrived in the post this morning from the BA Concorde shop on their website. Made by Corgi, they are diecast and come with stands as opposed to undercarriages. The old colours one is G-BOAA and the new is G-BOAC. 2 for a tenner !

It is a steelpan, the country’s national instrument. Actually the only new instrument to be invented this century so I am lead to believe. I only realised it a few months back, before I thought it was some sort of sea creature
What… The 21st century ?
I like it, at least it’s not all white with a logo stuck on the tail like most these days.
That Tahiti-Nui 340 is tops, I must try and get one. I think if I don’t get the Braniff 747 next I’ll try for the Air Jamaica A340.
Nice collection altogether too ! 😉
Yip it’s a big beast alright, the cabin crew must stop for a tea break half way up the aisle (lol) 😀
Yeah that pic was taken whilst it was being dismantled for the trip.
