Wow ! that’s what I call a crosswind. It gives creedence to the often quoted notion that landing is merely a controlled crash!!

I’m reminded of a scene at Dublin Airport a year last October when there were severe gales affecting the UK area. I stood watching planes attempting to land in what can only be described as a
Stuka dive bomber technique followed by a pull back on the stick to pull the plane level prior to landing ! The captain of our flight apologised for the two hour crossing from Glasgow, but assured us we would make the return leg in jig time !!! I also seem to recall AW publishing some shots of planes attempting to land at LHR at the same period. Those were dramatic as hell !

I think it’s pretty good, although my demands with flight sims tend to be more about accurate scenery than accurate flying. I like to get up and just look around at things from above so GB Airports is good in this respect as the airport layouts and static aircraft are very convincing.

I’ve never tried the docking gates as I normally just fly the Cessnas on FS2002 but I’ll have a try with a Boeing to see what happens. You could though have a look at the product website, I think there’s a forum on there that may give you the answers, it also has some good screenshots there too.

Anyone know when those photo realistic add ons for UK scenery will be extended to include the rest of the UK ? I quite fancy dive bombing my local footie ground after Saturday’s result (lol)

Isn’t the price of everything high in Iceland ? A friend shot a travel report there recently and couldn’t believe how much a beer was for example. Nice people though, great bunch of geysers !

I’ve worked in temperatures up to -25 and that was no picnic fully wrapped up in thermals etc. You’ve no chance at all in an undercarriage at those altitudes. People must be utterly desperate to even think about trying it. You’d have a better chance holding up a bank for the money to buy a ticket !!!

RE: Report on London Manston.

I’m sure AW World or maybe Aircraft Illustated did a lenghty feature on Manston about 6 months ago ? Sounds like it could be one to watch. The management reminded of the Prestwick management that steered it towards it’s current revival, full of enthusiasm and bright ideas for future development. Here’s to them !

They use a 767 from May to September/October, but yes it does seem rarther a long way in a 757 with crappy cabin service as I mentioned on another thread. Other transatlantic routes from GLA include, Air Transat to Toronto and American Airlines to Chicago as well as the charters taking holiday makers to the likes of Florida.

When GLA got trans atlantic status in the early 90’s you could fly the pond with BA, Air Canada, Northwest, American, Continental,Canada 3000 and Air 2000 to name but a few. Air 2000 famously offered flights from GLA before the open skies policy came into force by touching down at PIK en route to Florida !

Most of these airlines cleared off long ago when they realised demand wasn’t as high as they had anticipated, they also failed to cater for the non business/leisure market, pitching most of their services and prices at the business market.

As things stand Continental provide the only all year round daily service to America and in the pre open skies days, Northwest(Orient) provided a 747 service from Prestwick.

That BMA crash happened a couple of weeks after Lockerbie, I remember finishing college for the Christmas hols to the news of Lockerbie and starting back in the new year to the news of Kegworth ! I think I’ve seen the show before actually, if it’s the same one it has some compelling human interest stories, but not too much in depth crash analysis.
