Really? Which types in particular? I can’t locate it on the four below.
Seriously, their marketing department should have picked up on the name thing way earlier. Nice series of images, thanks.
I agree with Neptune’s reading. In dock is probably the third of class, as in previous images first and second were in the water, mored facing close to each other. Shivalik (1st of class) was scheduled to commission in September 2007. If that first picture (with radar) shows Shivalik, she’s significantly behind schedule. The situation may be better if it is the second of class, Satpura, which is scheduled for commissioning in March 2008
Nonetheless, thanx people for the images!!!!
16DDH Hyūga launched on 23rd August.

Two fixed phased arrays side by side, wazzup wid dat?
It is all very well to talk about the project 17A but we have yet to see the project 17 ships enter service and prove themselves. Three hulls are in the water and have been for some time. Yet it has been remarkably quiet. Very little by way of photo’s, which is disappointing considering the prolific image posting of new ships by our Chinese friends. Does anybody have a reasonable explanation for the lack of imagery?
Also for project 17A, does foreign yard involvement mean a domestic design has been abandoned? If so, that would be a big vote of non-confidence as far as the basic project 17 is concerned, which I believe was to be the basis for several flights of ships.
Of course, it could also be that the basic design is good but that there is insufficient yardspace available to build the necessary ships in a given time frame. Then, a foreign yard would build a ship to Indian design.
Ideas anyone?
The French themselves have always done a pretty good job of leaking technology, if and when it was in their perceived national interest.
UAZ, what modern systems might be expected to appear on OCHAKOV? Any particulars?
Rastrub on Udaloys has 50/50 of anti-ship and ant-sub missiles, so they are going to keep them.
Ok, so no Moskit on these babies (save for the single Udaloy 2). Maybe if they took out a 100mm gun, they could put in a VL for a bunch of Yakhont, then they could go with 8 ASW Rastrub and 8 (perhaps even 16?) AShM. And possibly replace the remaining 100mm with a lightweight single 130mm…
Sorry, just daydreaming. 😀
Not that I know. But it might be done during mid-life upgrade, as Altair is massively pushing Gibka. At the IMDS-2007 I learned that it has optical tracking feature and uses Puma radar as FCS.
Well, it would be a nice complement, in between AK630 and Kinzhal (SA-N-9), bringing them closer to the Udaloy 2. What are the chances that they might swap some SS-N-14 for an AShM (or do they carry 2 Silex versions 50/50?)
That’s a good question? Yet, the SM-3 is longer than the SM-2. So, more than likely not………Of course could the twin arm launchers of the early Aegis Cruiser be reasonably modified to except the Mk-41 in its place???
Yes, just like the Mk41 was installed in Spruance’s replacing the Mk29. It just wasn’t done in the olded Ticos as an economy measure
the problem with the old tico is that they are very tired and did the majority of the Atlantic cruise and they all suffer from hull twisting and warped hulls. it would be expensive to rehabilitated them to service
What did the Kidd class ships mainly do?
Regarding Kulakov, it’s going to get this “significant” upgrade:diablo:
Really … has this put on any other Udaloy?
I think its part of the cold war hangup, where people think that Russian stuff is super-cool because Russian weapons have a history and reputation whereas Chinese weapons don’t.
Although they may also be doing so for the benefit of their readers, as the mention of multi-billion dollar Russian arms buys are going to sound more awe-inspiring then some strange Chinese named aircraft/ship most of their readers can’t even pronounce.
It’s just that folks want to figure out the extent of Russian-Chinese cooperation. No one in their right mind thinks Russian weapons are by definition supercool (at least not since ‘Desert Storm’). It doesn’t help either that there appears little coherence in the development of some chinese weapons (“oh look, yet another multi axle wheels tank destroyer, “why do they need so many different ones?”) and little apparent follow through on others (“so, when’s this protoype becoming operational? “Why aren’t there more more type 052B/C being built?”).
Would the first 5 Ticonderoga class ships (CG-47 through CG-51) be an option? They never got VLS, retaining the Mk26 launchers, and are similar to the 4 Kidd in that sense. They’ve all decommed (2004-2006) and probably are less modernized than others of this class.
Configurations also fit with Shafaqh trainer, M-ATF, I-2000…
