I disagree. Something like 12, maybe – 4-6 would be a waste.
I think you may have got yourself mixed up. Officially they will carry 4 helicopters, but they have room for around 11. If that has changed I would appreciate an article with full details.
Please refer to post #6: It will have hangar space for at least 2 V-22, plus 3 SH60 plus 1 EH101. There just isn’t a lot of hangar space. If you keep that complement and add a few F-35 and assume a total complement of around 11 airframes, then I would say hangar space for about 11-6= 5 F-35. Add a few on permanent deck park and you end up with about 9. This happens to coincide with the number of Sea Harrier that used to be carried by the Invincible class (which had 9 SHAR, 3 Sea King AEW, 9 Sea King ASW).
Makes sense to have a mix of VL Asroc and ESSM as this is found on most japanese ships. Building on the Murasame class line, this new line of destroyers also gets FCS-3 Kai.

IIRC the Japanese are/have been working on their own phased array radars for naval use. There is a picture around somewhere of one fitted to a frigate.
Treining Support Ship ATS-4202 Kurobe?
There are much smaller phased array radars than the SPY-1D, e.g. the Thales Nederland APAR – which is, by all reports, an excellent radar, & happens to work very well with ESSM. 😀
Might be for SPY-1K. Apar works well with SM2MR as well.
Waar een rokie is moet een vuurtjie wees. Welkom en totsiens, meneer!

Shipmate & Musashi,
Can we try keep it friendly, please. Enough fora are spoiled by such bickering as you are in danger of getting into. I emplore you, gentlemen, let’s not do that here.

German Navy Mulls Buying Finnish Landing Craft
The German Navy is testing the compatibility of the Finnish Navy’s Jurmo class landing craft with combat support ship FGS Frankfurt am Main in Helsinki on Monday, Finnish Defence Forces paper Ruotuväki reported on its website on Sunday.
“The Germans need this type of vessel and they are interested. Jurmo is one option,” the host of the naval visit, Commander Aimo Jokela, told Ruotuväki.
“One of the things we will establish is how many boats one can fit on the deck of the large combat support ship and in its cargo bays.”
Niko Haro, the chief executive of Marine Alutech, which manufactured the Finnish Navy’s Jurmos, said the design could be easily converted to comply with Nato standards.
— Finnish landing craft fare well in German Navy tests
Tests carried out on board FGS Frankfurt am Main in Helsinki on Monday to establish the compatibility of the German Navy combat support ship and the Finnish Navy’s Jurmo class landing craft were a success.
Finnish Defence Forces paper Ruotuväki had reported on its website the day before that Germany was considering buying Jurmos.
Commander Aimo Jokela said the tests consisted of lifting a Jurmo onto the deck of FGS Frankfurt am Main to see how it would fit.
“A Jurmo was hoisted with a crane from the sea onto the deck of the combat support vessel and then lowered back into the water. There were no problems,” Cdr Jokela said.
The Jurmo is the primary means of transport for Finland’s coastal commandos.
Nice looking craft, also comes in 120mm mortar version. See http://www.marinealutech.com/prod-m12.htm
Wonder if the Germans did or would consider the Swedish combat boat 90. See http://www.dockstavarvet.se/index2.php?content=products&subpage=combat_boat_cb_90_h
Nice pics, nice looking ship.
But when is she going to be mothballed to save money?

It’s funny you should ask, I was just thinking the same thing. :p
But seriously, she’s pretty and huge compared to a Type 42.
“You’ve all done very well!!”

Large ASW Destroyer “Smetlivy” Project 01090 (not a standard Kashin Mod Class – installed submarine-search device MNK-300 and replaced 2 RBU-1000 with launchers for SSM “Uran” – SS-N-25 ‘Switchblade’).

Still looking for good images of Provorny, which served at Shtil (SA-N-7) trial ship, IRC with 8 Orekh.
THink another way…
Having a carrier not only mean you can operate and learn about it, but also mean you can learn how to sink one!.
One of factor Argentina navy SuE success sunk british ship because they trained to do that with Argentina’s frigate.Have a carrier means China can learn how to break US CVBG formation and sunk the big mother…
I hope you are not suggesting that only other carrier operators can figure out how to sink a carrier belonging to the opposition….
Russia Tests New Corvette
July 6, 2007: After seven years, Russia is getting its first Steregushchiy class corvette this Summer, once it completes its sea trials. Displacing 1,900 tons, Steregushchiy is equipped with eight SS-N-26 anti-ship missiles, three eight-round SA-N-9 anti-aircraft missile launchers, a 100mm gun, two 30mm Gatling guns, four 15.75-inch torpedo tubes, and two four-round anti-aircraft missile SA-N-8 launchers. The 291 foot long ship has a crew of 120, and is designed for maximum cruises of fifteen days (cruising at 25 kilometers an hour, with top speed of a little over twice that). The Steregushchiys are meant for coastal patrol. Three more are under construction, and the navy wants at least twenty. The design is being offered to export customers.
