Hi,
You’ll find all you need in an earlier thread –

Best of luck.
Mothminor; yes indeed I know it quite well 😀
Lol. I do have a brain, honestly – just occasionally it glitches. That was one of those occasions!
Glad to hear about the letter – hope you hear good news back.
DCK are you aware of this –

I would give the suggestions by 43-2195 above serious consideration in order to get the personal story. If you then meet a dead-end, at least you would have the consolation of knowing you had tried.
I can see the second Wildcat now, is that a second Hurri in the nearest of the two LH hangars with the Fulmer in the next one.
Yes, it is.
I am unable to see the Fulmers or the second Wildcat
Second Wildcat is just visible behind the second Barracuda on the right hand side – prop, top of cowling and one wing only to be seen.
I assume that the Fulmar is the aircraft at top left though I can’t get a lot of detail even enhancing the photo.
Could it be a gun harmonizing butt? It looks similar to ones i have seen elsewhere..
Ian
I stand corrected – you are absolutely right!
Sadly not asking the right questions of the right people at the right time is a not uncommon story. I’ve already posted some old family photos in a previous thread because I failed to ask the details when my parents were alive.
But to not have “saved” this young mans life story in some way or the other is bitterly disappointing.
My first reaction on reading your story was “what a wonderful book or film it would make”. It certainly deserves a wider audience. This forum is frequented by people who are bringing “extinct” aircraft back to life from small fragments. Perhaps it’s
not too late to do the same for Leif Lundsten’s life story.
Thanks for telling the story. How tragic! Often the personal lives of the airmen, soldiers, sailors, etc are ignored or forgotten by history but hearing stories like this makes their passing all the more poignant.
I may be wrong but I suspect it may be all that’s left of the control tower. It certainly seems to be a sandstone building as seen on far right in first photo and it appears to have had a balcony – see the shadow in photo 2. Farmer appears to have converted it to a shed 🙁

All joking aside about buried stuff – I’d love to have a poke around that site with a metal detector!
Sure looks like it,are any of the tie down rings in the foreground still in place ??
Bit higher resolution on Bing Maps but it doesn’t look like the rings are present. Looks like the tarmac was ripped up in that area.

Well done. Full marks for perseverance! Can you tell us any more about the story? What was the pilot’s name (original photo seems to have been removed)?
As Ballykellyrat says It certainly does look like RNAS Millmeece, the hangars are still there.
Not sure if this will work but this link should be the Google map image with the site at the centre.https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=mill+meece+staffordshire&ie=UTF-8&ei=AqpVUrTJHMru0gXhzYGYAQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg
If you drag the street view man to the nearby railway bridge you can spin round and see the distant hill, exactly like the one in the original image.Richard
I’m pretty sure the exact complex is just off Old Hall Lane there –

It’s useful if say you don’t read the NAM thread as you live far away but are interested in Victor related news?

Hit the nail on the head – exactly why I find myself reading this thread!
