does anyone know how USAF fighter & transport stream salaries compare to civilian sector ? given the gigantic size of the US aviation sector has there ever been a shortage of pilots and resulting ‘poaching’ from the USAFs considerable pool of transport pilots ?

my rough idea was the ratio between civil:mil pay isnt as dramatic in the US as in India. In India I think it is currently 6:1 or worse ….. our civilian pilots imo have always been paid nearly at par with US salaries for some reason – in India.

the Growlers are high value airframes with internal mods also surely- that means they are dedicated EW not dual-role. A2G munition delivery isnt a role.

however I am surprised to see the old prop driven EA6 type pods. I remember some co had developed a ram-air turbine pod that was less draggy and presumably suitable for the Growlers higher speed. had a tapering ram intake at the front.

    here’s the link:

my thought was the marine gunfire support be given from a smaller ship that lacks the huge C3I component and large# of P-VLS cells (would carry mainly land attack Thawk and a few ESSM). the ATBM/AAW version would skip the siege gun , have the full featured SPY3, ATBM SAMs and conventional SM2 also in a full array of VLS.
    i.e. a bifurcation into the old DD21 and CG21 concept 😀

the puppy above looks like swiss army knife with 21 blades. the more “austere” marine version would be built in bigger numbers and cost less, the bigstick CG21 would be fewer units and accompany future carriers and hang around off “countries with issues” like iran, pakistan and Noko :diablo:

why does it need to be 12000tons, cant they reduce the number of pvls cells and other toys and do a virginia on it, bringing it down to a more economical 7500tons ?
maybe explore a smaller gun or a turret with two guns eh? the gun has 100 mile range which is well within range of any next-gen ASM fired from the shore, so its not as if reducing the guns range to 70km with a smaller piece will seriously threaten the concept.

    Hi ! All

Here is a first hand report of seeing that Sukhoi flight with the president.

According to reports in the local newspaper the flight was to take off at 900 hrs, but I had heard from News channels that the
flight is scheduled for 1000 hrs. Also anticipating a lot of traffic jam, since there were last minute changes & the president
was driven instead of being flown from the Raj Bhavan, I started pretty early for the Air Force Station.

For all those who have seen AFS Lohagaon or have been to Pune, there is a road just next to the taxi-way for the Sukhoi’s
which leads to a few civilian areas & all the infrastructure of the AFS.
It has been my regular place for last few years, at times pleading n begging the security staff , when its a VIP visit,
to see the planes take off & zoom past.

Again I went there but today was different , first everybody was asked to get off the roads since the convoy was expected any moment..

A crowd of over 50 had gathered there & most of them were retired armed forces personal.
The police after soo much begging from those people allowed us to stay there to view the flight.
The president went into the AFS at around 910AM.
ARound 1000 hrs , two Sukhois took off & were not seen for much of the time, people believed that the president was in Air,
however I deffered & I was right, the president took to skies a bit late around 1030
Following which 10 Sukhois took off, it was a treat to watch sooo many su’s taking off in quick succession.
What followed was more than that, JAGUARS !!
    3 trainers ( JT ) , 9 Maritime ( KM ) & 1 Strike (JS).

The president landed in about 32 mins, & while taxing back, waved to the crowd.. & the crowd was clapping for the flight.
There was no action at all till 1130 hrs.
After which, three Sukhois flying very low, came from the civil terminal side, two peeling off & the middle one doing a vertical charlie.
After that 4 more sukhois came , two at a time displaying some fantastic manouvering.

Then was the big one….. what i had kept on hearing for a long long time.. BUDDY REFUELLING.

I was anticipating that it would be done in air, however.. it was done when the president was on ground.
I couldnt believe my eyes, when I saw that. A Su-30MkI refuelling another Su-30MkI.

Well this wasnt enough, Jaguars carried out a mock attack on the AFS & along with mock missiles there were small fire things on ground
which burst each time a Jaguar attacked.
    Dog fight between Su’s & Jags followed…

AFter 4 mock attacks & some great stunts by Sukhoi..

A single Su-30MkI took to skies for the final acrobatic display… well nothin was missed..not even COBRA !

when finally all aircrafts started coming down, there was a hige traffic jam on the runway, Imagine seeing 13 sukhois side by side on a runway
when this jam was cleared another traffic jam followed, this time Jaguars.

The president took off in his Mi-8 escorted by two Mi-17s for DIAT at 1240 hrs.

What followed on road was another confusion of police not able to handle such a crowd dispersing.

I had posted a report here long ago that vanilla brahmos has a datalink-among-the-salvo capability similar to Granit.

If we look at commerical electronics a decade ago, there is a vast diff in pwr consumption, level of integration, processing power and compactness. todays Granit-21CN-Ru electronic section could be much smaller and more fearsome.

maybe the french need a product superior or equivalent to the highly rated U214 to compete. their fuel cell tech is still considered inferior to the siemens on U21x

germans had a ready market for U214 were they willing to sell.
