what resin will they be using?
Lol hopefully not the ones they slapped on the dhruv tailrotor đŽ
Who say’s the US is paying for Arms going to Pakistan?
all the arms to Pak so far and in the pipeline come under a $3.5 b aid package.
US Govt pays the industry, industry ships the materials. other items like tactical radios have separate GOAT funding(global war on terror).
stuff like 150 M109A5 guns, L-88 aerostat radars, scores of utility helicopters, Tow, harpoon, P3 refurbishment, night vision, M113 etc etc all go from the aid package.
Pak is working out a financing pkg for the F-16 deal.
Tinwing is wrong as usual when he claims US will pay for any arms to India.
show us any examples. ANTPQ37 was paid for by India. GE engines paid for.
nothing has been given free or under aid package to India. I am ok with that – no need to feel obligated to anyone, pay as you go.
I’d like to see Long range >1500 kms Subsonic variant Ashm in the frigates for secondary land attack role.
1200km CM sagarika is slated for 1st test in 2007. if things go well it will reach IOC in 5 years. length and diameter maybe similar to brahmos permitting the
same VL system to be reused with slight changes.
the naval tomahawk has this kind of the range but maybe smaller coz it has
latest in technology engine wise.
a 21″ diameter, 18ft long weapon would be ideal even if some range is compromized coz it permits torpedo tube launching.
Boeing has hundreds of booked orders from various indian airlines. the post below only refers to Air India order.
they are going to setup a major overhaul & training center in Nagpur (home base of IL-76Midas) , as is Airbus to service the flood of new planes entering the civilian market.
the domestic aviation sector is growing at 40+% and international 20% .
business travel into major indian cities is so up good hotel rooms cant be had for below $300 anywhere. most of these are american corporate travellers :diablo:

The French Mirage 2000 fighters in the Indian Air Force will soon have a whole new range of weapons to carry into battle. As part of the planned fleet upgradation, the Mirages will be modified to operate Russian missiles and bombs.
The Indian Air Force will start upgrading its Mirage 2000 fleet from 2008. Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) K.P. Puri told The Tribune during a recent visit here that the upgrade project would be undertaken locally by HAL in collaboration with French firms.
One of the major facets of the upgrade programme is to integrate Russian weapon systems with the Mirage 2000. This may require certain modifications to the aircraftâs weapon mounting pylons as well as the holding points on the ordnance. The command and control computer software as well as the triggering mechanisms would also have to be suitably customised
At present the Mirage are armed with the short-range Magic and the 40-km range Matra 530-D missiles, besides guided and free-fall bombs. There are a large number of Russian origin air-to-air missiles, with some types having a range in excess of 100 km, as well as precision ground attack munitions and anti-ship missiles in the IAFâs inventory, the use of which would enhance the combat potential of the Mirage 2000 fleet.
Cross-integration of weapon systems, Mr Puri said, was not a difficult preposition and it had been done before. For example, the Anglo-French Matra Magic heat seeking missile was modified to be used on IAF MiG 21s.
Inducted in the mid-80s, the Mirage 2000s equip two IAF squadrons, No.1 âTigersâ and No.7 âBattle Axeâ. Both squadrons had carried out precision strikes at high altitudes during the 1999 Kargil conflict. Special innovations were carried by IAF engineers for the missions.
The upgrade also involves re-designing the Mirageâs cockpit by replacing conventional instruments and gauges with multi-functional display panels. New avionics, augmentation of its radarâs seek and track capability and a new mission computer would also be included in the upgrade package.
The Mirage 2000s have also been recently modified to incorporate aerial refueling capability. Earlier, these aircraft used to be sent to France for periodic overhaul, but since 1998, this is being done by HAL at its Bangalore and Kanpur units. Some sparse are also being manufactured there.
Meanwhile, HAL is scheduled to commence the MiG-29 upgrade programme in June next year. This project involves installation of a new version of its RD-33 engine, increasing the aircraftâs fuel carrying capacity, new radar and avionics and air-to-air refueling capability.
So, can we expect to see a order for the MRCA Winner in February of 2007? (i.e. Aero India 07)
đŽ
ROTFLMAO…the IAF chief himself expects the process to drag on ..as the dust settles on changes in the Indo-US relationship . There is some “1-2-3”
agreement thats coming on the nuclear table, NSG has to amend his ban on supplying nuclear fuel (heavy chinese opposition) , …..
there is no RFP yet and not likely to be anytime soon.
in meantime as noted they have
– 39 jaguars (~20 delivered)
– 10 mirages from ex-UAE delivered (dassault had them in mothballs)
– ~40 ex-FrAF/Qatar in the pipe
– 50 Mirage2000 upgraded to -9 std
– 50 Mig29 upg to -K std
– 40 more su30
– 28 LCA (8 + 20) confirmed so far
——————————–
adds upto 157 new a/c and 100 upg.
there are around 100 older Jaguars , 100 older Mig27 (40 to be upged),
120 Bison and 70(?) MK/MKI.
looks like 600-650 airframes in 2010 to me. comes to around 40 sqdns
using 15/sqdn.
BUT after 2010 the older Jag/Mig27 will retire at a rapid pace. LCA has to
pick the slack and MRCA has to start arriving surely by 2012-15 which means
a deal needs to be signed by 2010 LATEST.
either that or accept a downfall of 8 sqdns – not good.
per todays report in media the M2K upg is estimated at $30 mil a plane !! đŽ
they better get all the latest rafale-style toys at that price. duct tape upg to get R77 into play just doesnt cut it for such a steep price.
nothing less than
M53-PX (proposed successor to the -P2 by snecma)
RBE2
Mica
IRST
Spectra
AASM
glass cockpit
new powerful mission computer
towed decoy
broadband datalink to pipe in cartoons and WWF on MFD :diablo:
leather seating with 6-way adjustment
free 10 CD of french songs
free welcome bottle of champagne for the pilot
a hamper of grapes and cheese
the initial idea was to get a single engine plane for MRCA. low operating cost compared to twin-engine. they had finalized on M2K-9 when all sorts of political and strategic disturbances dislocated the dilithium core down in engine room.
the moment Mig-35 and F-18 entered the field, the 1-engine vs 2-engine argument went out.
Now I am quite confused.
is it supposed to replace all the existing Mig27, M2K, Jaguar fleet ? if thats the case, it only needs to start arriving in 2015 to keep pace with the retirement of these birds. India has got itself some new Jags/M2K and some of the Mig27 are being uprated. Mig35/F18/M2K are todays tech not 2015 tech. India will have to either ask for JSF or fund the Mikoyan 5th gen proposal to get 2015 tech in 2015.
is it supposed to replace the MKI eventually as the prime A2A bird ? in that case its even more important to get a all-stealth, big fast internal bay plane which none of the MRCA contenders are.
and where is the MCA supposed to fit in ? supplement the MRCA ?

to me the clear path is:
(a) finish the LCA asap using israeli radar and american engine. use that as
the MRCA progressively moving to local manufacture of weapons.
(b) fund the EL2052-I & Litening-5 and use that in LCA when available.
(c) combine MCA proposal with Mikoyan and develop MCA for induction in
2020 as a 1-engine stealthy JSFski. Ru help is mandatory for such a complex
enterprise at this stage.
(d) continue working with Snecma to finish Kaveri. use it in later tranches
of LCA and v2 in MCA.
(e) begin prelim work with Sukhoi around 2010 on a plane to eventually
replace the Su30 for 1st flight around 2018 & induction in 2025.
(f) buy around 80 MRCA of a single make to keep up with depletion of
older Mig27/Jag until 2015. M2K-9 appears to be least cost option and
without the political lectures and finger wagging that comes free with
US deals.
M2K-5/9/H is very much in service in Gulf, south america and Taiwan so the spare parts chain will remain totally intact for 2 decades to service these customers.
south korea.
sagarika was being worked on before brahmos started to hog the limelight.
so it appears:
Sagarika – turbofan/turbojet powered SLCM with a target range of 1200km, may or may not be achieved in initial iteration. all depends if they have managed to make / obtain the micro-turbofan
son-of-Brahmos – Brahmos already being a long and heavy missile its not feasible to make it much longer. hence it has to be thicker for more range like Granit. but Granit is approx 600km only. new improvements in ramjet tech are needed to push that airframe upto 1000km.
what has Dassault done with the now closed Mirage2000 production line equipment ?
(a) in mothballs
(b) sold
(c) shifted to rafale production
the dozens of suppliers like hispano suiza & sextant etc who supply components will certainly have a cost to produce parts thats off their current catalogue.
Dassault offered to sell the production line machinery to HAL , but surely the dozens of subsystem makers still need to manufacture and supply from european plants.
there will be some startup cost to get the whole ecosystem started again. but compared to Eurofighter or Rafale unit cost (need to recover R&D investments), the M2K restart shouldnt be very costly…its R&D has been recovered long ago and cost can be amortized over a large airframe count like say 80 M2K-9-I (and 50 Rafale)
it will lack the raw performance, RCS, payload and range of rafale but with suitable avionics like spectra, meteor be able to hold its own in the medium range role.
I do agree the SH is a good system when armed with amraam and APG79. the reality is APG79 is not cleared for export to India. and US is giving free 1000s of amraams, JDAMs, dozens F-16-52, hawkeye2000 to the local Munna.
thats not a good marketing strategy if they want F-18 deal.
the nuclear deal will result in GE getting part of the spoils, as will Areva and Russia (Areva opened two offices in bangalore already and taken out full page ads to grab the high ground) but will not spill over into major military orders unless free meals to Munna are curtailed. small scale deals like LCA engine or a few C130J will be there.
there is no point operating pretty much the same eqpt as Munna with all characteristics well known.
that leaves Mig35 with a “promised” Zhuk radar that is a desperate short term attempt to slap “aesa” tag on it and the Rafale+M2K-9 as serious contenders.
with initial product being too heavy for Mig29 they have gone for a 600 element radar with range reduced from 200km to 130km and promises to scale up again if $$ is provided.
for cost reasons a hi-low Mix of Rafale and M2K-9 with similar aesa radar and avionics appears to be a good soln.

> such as the record breaking long duration flight of over 9 hour 30 minutes
must be the long haul test AsuW missions flown last yr. pretty long time to sit
in su30 cockpit.
> R77
Ru has announced some recent plans to update/replace both the R73 and R77.
afaik R73+ is a moderate upg , the R73++ will be comparable to aim9X/asraam and use “IIR focal plane array”. dont recall the details on R77 replacement…can anyone fill in?
