Same as the rudder slide bearing

Same sort of operation as the rudder slide. As the column is moved fore and aft the drum would pivot as well with most of the movement taken up in the uni joint.By jove I think I have it.Will have to put a bearing in place to lock it and then start fiddling with the design.Cheers guys, also another quicky,frame11.Seeing as it,s a double frame like 8 does it have the small spacers as well to keep the proper distance or is it just the “C” channels and the internal one up the top…part No 30027-1987.Cheers guys and thanks again. :diablo:

Cheers stuart,we only have the 30033/sheet6 drawing in our stash but yes I can see it now.It looks like the control drum is held in place with a swivel bearing on part 43 on that drawing. The bottom hole on the centre aft channel of frame 9 would have to be an access hole for the retention nut for the drum.Sweet mate.Looks like you win the prize!!Just gotta find out what that prize is.Does it ever get to the stage where all the drawings start looking the same.Nurse, nurse,my medication please.Regards one slightly less stressed Spitfire builder.

Cheers Stuart yep that magic world,or should it read ‘cursed” which seems today to indicate madness or skullduggery. We are readily admitting we are doing a repro off the original drawings in the style befitting the original type.We could provide an ID plate for it if we choose but that would be like getting a Robnell Cobra and passing it off as an original.Same thing went on in the Muscle Car fraternity here in Ozz with the Xy Gt Ho Falcons, probably more”Originals” around now then what were originally produced. It,s a shame to see how people react when a large wad of money gets passed under the nose but I suppose thats human society today.Always have been crooks it,s just technollagy has made it easier for them and bought them more out into the public. All our “repro” bits will be just that, repro. We could charge an bucketload of money for them but that I would think would cheapen the originals and they are best left to the hard core collectors and bigger museums.Spitfires becoming more and more rare, especially original airframes with ID and providence it,s really becoming a jungle out there.Anywayt sorry to go off topic but it sounds like the sign is going to a good home.

Interesting read guys and just the place to post my first bit of nonsence, well not really. At our local museum I am involved in the build of a repro Spit. All alloy, full scale ground runner and so forth. The reason behind the build was bought upon the loss of two such “real spits” that were built or being built as a memorial to the guys and gals who flew, serviced them in the local area. These two projects had canvased the locals getting all the bits and pieces left over from the big scrap drive in 48,49(gotta love those farmers). When enough parts were donated, lent, given projects where readily sold OS.The last one was particullarly badly done as the plane and a lot of parts that where donated ,loaned as far as it remained a collection where silently and stealthily sold to the Uk .Thing is the farmers and collectors who still have parts have given grave reservations in helping our project until we prove that this one will stay at the museum and will not go anywhere. Many of the parts are held by a good mate and currently has them on loan to us as the bad stuff we can reverse engineer and make new copies thus preserving their value. The new museum manager wants them donated in case something goes wrong and if that is (unlikely) to happen they will be returned to said collector.I think this would be the way to go in any museum as if it is donated and the museum shuts the original owner has the right to say what can be done with it.And stuff that goes into storage well a good curator should be able to rotate exhibits, have different themes for times in history.I know thats hard as time and money is short but in a perfect world that would be ideal.Well thats it I suppose I really haven,t had much experience in the political goings on in museums, just a tin basher who loves making bits and pieces.I think the hard to find stuff should go to a good home and if it were not so rare or if you had multiples of said part then stealbay could be an option.Yeah I know there are plenty of crooks around but the community is too small to p#ss off too many people.
