    Hi Andy,

Thank you for looking, how very strange. From the report I have the Stirling crashed just inside the boundary of the airfield. Plus it was skippered by a wing commander! Given this I was hoping some fighter jock would have had his camera out and snapped a pic or two. I assume no luck Andy on this front either?

    Cheers

    Steve

Have you checked the Tangmere ORB? If not, I will dig it out in a moment.

    Hi Andy,

    Any luck with this?

    Regards

    Hi Andy,

No I contacted the Tangmere Museum, sadly without any success. I presumed they checked?

Any bit of info welcome. I would have thought a bloody big Stirling dropping in ( literally ) would have made a mention, even to the fighter boys !

    Regards

    Tease !

I am visiting a relative of the pilot this month and have a chance to copy his log books, all 5 of them! He ended up a group captain retiring in the late 50’s.

    Thanks again Andy.

    Cheers

This hangs in my study. I commissioned the painting in early 2004 by a good friend sadly gone, Keith Aspinall.

Titled “Encounter over Witten” No.31 Base Lancaster’s lead by No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron attack in daylight Witten, December 12th 1944.

    No, I haven’t forgotten.

I’m afraid it will involve going through a huge box of un-indexed or filed images, and apart from the fact that I need t retrieve that from the back of the loft I wont have time to look through them, anyway, until after this coming Monday.

    Keep reminding me, though.

    Dear Andy,

    Just a gentle nudge.

    Kind regards as always.

I was at the museum yesterday ( well the research department) after a few hours and £60 poorer I had a quick look around the museum. I had not been since 2002, apart from the still dreadful lighting and the gloom the one thing that was immediately apparent was that I could count the visitors walking around the main hall on one hand!! There was more people working in the shop !!

I came away thinking will the museum be here in another 5 or 10 years, I hope so but given the amount of development around the museum I really doubt it………..very sad.

Rant over back to my Form 78’s. !

    Hi Andy,

Thank you. I hope you will not mind a gentle nudge in a few weeks.

I have tried the Tangmere museum without luck sadly, it appears what I had in the way of info they didn’t !
