Wasn’t XH558 purchased for the nation? I have no problem with contributing to the upkeep of ‘my’ heritage. The project will continue to need our support in the years to come. If you want to see it fly, you might as well get used to parting with a few quid now and then for the priviledge. Imagine how proud you will be when it drowns out the sound of whingers and nay sayers, setting off all the car alarms in the process, how good will you feel when you say to yourself “I helped do that”
My donation will be going in tonight. Feel free to do the same.
Whingers – keep on carping if that’s your thing, not much of a life is it?.. we won’t be able to hear you much longer, just don’t drop your thermos 😀
That is EXACTLY how it is. No sponsor, she’ll have to rely on public subscription, which i’ll gladly contribute to, until it really is unaffordable, and what VTtS have said for nigh on a year and a half / two years.
A lot of negative people have written both the VTtS trust and us ‘stupid’ contributors off over many years, but we have, collectively jumped EVERY hurdle placed in front of us, and we’ll continue to do so. Roll on first flight, and every single one, whether it’s 1 or 100, after that…
I remember growing up when the Vulcan was in it’s prime circa early seventies ! Was Britain really that ‘Great’ ? I remember the winter blackouts-
British cars that rotted before your eyes and inflation that makes todays rates seem trivial . As for Health & Safety – they were indeed the days when parents went to work and often died. When bosses had little or no chance of seeing themselves prosecuted for blatant unsafe practices . So yes please lets commemorate the good old days !!!
Yep, I for one would. And so would everyone I know who lived through these periods. Maybe you’re different. We’ve sold the crown jewels – car design & manufacture, Aviation design & manufacture, ship design & manufacture….
All done by Johnny Foreigner now, and good luck to them. This country only has itself to blame.
As for Health & Safety, fair enough, life threatening practices, but soon you won’t be able to make a cup of tea in the workplace for fear you spill some and someone slips and breaks a finger. B*llocks to it.
Great Britain, my ar*e. I really would change ‘Great Britain’ to just ‘Britain’.
Anyway, at the end of the day, the lottery money could have gone on X, Y or Z project, society etc. But it hasn’t. It has gone on this project, which is weeks away from completion. So everyone can curse and complain how wrong it is to hand VTtS the funding but now, it’s too late. The money is spent, the project is nearly complete. GET OVER IT.
If you look at the obstacles they have overcome to get to where we are now, I think it’s money well spent!! They are weeks away from achieving what they set out to do. Returning Avro Vulcan XH558 to flight.
If you or the next person doesn’t like it, Tough. I’ll back this until my dying day. And maybe not all, but certainly most of these people who slag this project off will be there the day she flies again without fail, snapping away and telling everyone around them how they remember the last time she flew and what a sight she is to behold. Which, to be honest, makes me laugh out loud. Will any of these people help themselves to a great big slice of humble pie when the airshow season is over?
Didn’t think so…
You bring this up time and again! If the TVOC agreed to pay an hourly rate to get the job done, then what do you expect! We are not party to the contracts and dont know what was agreed! Why on earth should Marshalls do anything for nothing??!
Yeah, ok, lesson learnt, the hard way. No one asked them to do it for ****** all. All we are saying is that, and here is where ‘but it’s a business’ flak will come, should/could they have done certain things somewhat cheaper?
Fire At Will…
MORE MONEY AGAIN:mad: 😡
Did you think she was going to run with fresh air in the tanks???
It would be very Nieve to think that it will earn its keep with Airshow bookings, im sorry, it wont!
VTtS don’t think it will and never have thought it would.
The name eludes me, but I got it off here. It is on an old thread about 607. I think it was the Station Commander. I think I should have wrote ‘asked’ instead of ‘applied.’ 🙂
Never, ever, going to happen Peter… 🙁 Applied to work on her, didn’t even get an answer…
Sorry, 598 and 607 were allocated their future duties in early ’83. Still don’t see why 607 wasn’t given a roof over her head and the freedon of Britain!! Come on all you Vulcan haters, shoot me down… :p
318 was on her way by road to Hendon before the Falklands kicked off. IIRC, 598 was on her way to Cosford just after the conflict. I’ve read somewhere 607 is currently being tidied up?
please
Has anyone been there recently? Are people allowed to walk up to her? Or is she THAT bad now?
She looks rough now though. Have they abandoned any work on her?
There is a “Vulcan Street” just off the dock road here in Liverpool. Still looking for “Victor Road” and “Valiant Way” tho… 🙂
Good Night, God Bless Sir… 🙁
