This would be out in the area where they shot the ‘Black Gates’ of Sauron’s realm for the LOTR trilogy, I’m guessing? Most of that sequence was shot on a ‘live fire’ area…..this the same one?

Why would one demo an aircraft that is due to be retired in the next year?Seems kinda dumb to me…..they will be missed and a long Naval tradition of Grumman Cats flying in the navy will be over….too depressing to contemplate….so I no longer will. But nice pics.

Grandfather Morris-Worked for the Vought company helping to design and promote the F4U Corsair of WWII (see his artwork below)
Grandfather Waterman, in US Navy, not sure of his position or what he did (he was an officer, I know that)
Grandfather Cramer (my stepmother’s father) shot down in early B-17 mission over Germany and spent rest of war in prison camp with a piece of Messerschmitt in his hand…

Places I WOULD’NT want to live: Somalia, any eastern bloc country, most of Africa, India….but an open mind to the rest of the world….

New Jersey actually is a great place, once you get out of the cities (and even they have their advantages), nice coastline and small scenic towns and the folks are nice…it’s like that in a lot of places on the east coast of the US once you get away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. I grew up in Colorado so am used to the more laid back western pace of the western US, have worked on fishing boats in California and spent 4-5 years of my life out there and can recommend that to ANYONE, a very nice area. Course, we’re getting crowded here in Colorado due to the fact that folks have started to figure out our tornadoes, when we have them aren’t very big, hurricanes are non-existant, the weather even in winter can get up to the 70’s F in January, the scenery is impeccable, and the ONLY thing in nature that will kill you really is a rock slide/avalanche/bear attack, and all of those are rare but do happen, but usually only to one or two people at a time. We had a NZ rugby team through here a few years ago and they LOVED it here and I know about 5 Brits who have moved here permanently (the British always DID love the West, it was the last great adventure frontier back in the 1800’s)…

This is rapidly turning into a ‘what’s your favorite place’ thread…ah well…
