Welcome to my neck of the woods, Brych!! Also while you’re in Denver, if it’s not too late to write you, stop in at Centennial Airport in south Denver on the weekend and see some of the boys playing with their toys…numerous T-6’s down there, Joe Thidodeau’s Sea Fury ‘Sky Hawk’ and his P-51D Mustang ‘Crusader’, lots of Staggerwings and twin Beeches (you just missed our Skyraider which was used in Flight of the Intruder, it was sold on to Houston)…we have a fly-in at Front Range airport at the end of June (26 and 27), LOTS of stuff there including all the above And Bill Greenwood’s T. Mk. 9 Spitfire is usually in attendance…Plenty to see and do in Colorado…hope you have a good trip!

….it really was gorgeous, I saw it at OSH last summer also, never got to see it fly, but it was sure as hell something to look at. Any word as to whether someone is going to attempt to do a rebuild on it? I’m guessing not…
Mark
Rex Beisel, for obvious reasons…my grandfather worked for him.
Sydney Camm, always did like his big, burly planes…
Ed Heinemann, for making the most successful Naval dive bomber of the war, the SBD and later the A-4 Skyhawk, a great little plane…
And dare I forget Kelly Johnson…always at the TOP of the aircraft design game…
Mark
Does’nt Dean Cutshall in the US still fly his (F-100), or has he sold it on?
Mark
I still think they ought to drop the flaps on the Corsair like it’s making an approach to the Carrier for landing…she’d look better…
Mark
GRAT Corsair reminiscences, interesting stuff….would love to poke around NZ and see if a U-bird or two could still be found somewhere…I know they trashed them all at Rukuhia after the war and only one exists in the NZ museum but i bet there’s one or more buried somewhere unexpected. Great to hear that the Flying museum has an ‘arms open’ attitude for folks just coming to see the planes for a day…more museums should adopt this attitude instead of the ‘top secret’ attitude some take…

Oh, let’s see….well, we have to first start with Multiple T-6 rides and photo shoots ALONGSIDE other flying aircraft like the Firefly, B-17 and -24, Corsair, Mustang, P-40, Albatross, BT-13’s, Spitfire, TBM, Staggerwing, other T-6’s…..but as for what I’ve actually BEEN up in:
B-17 ‘Shady Lady’
B-25 ‘Silver Lady’
B-25 ‘Can Do/Buck’
2 T-28’s
T-6’s (numerous)
Twin Beeches
Staggerwing
BT-13
Lockheed Harpoon
Cessna 140
Sure I’m forgetting some but that is the short list.

Followed up my own post with the details gleaned from the WRG site…the pilot, Don Hinz, died from his injuries after the engine on the Mustang failed over Bay City, Wisconsin…he brought the plane in almost level with the ground but a tree sheared off one wing and spun the plane around…apparently the V drive in the engine failed (via **** Phillips talking to Gerry Beck) and that caused the failure.
Condolences to pilot’s family.
Apparently the plane CAN be rebuilt.
Mark
God, I wanted to see the Heinkel in it’s new paint scheme…she looked great in photos…
I think last time I was at Midland we had 4 B-17’s, and they did a night show…well, dusk…’Journey’, ‘Raiders’, ‘Thunderbird’, and Doc Hospers ‘Chuckie’…great stuff….and the most 17’s I’ve seen in one place…
Mark
Papa- Lima,
I think I met you at Oshkosh…aren’t you the guy who was talking to Dennis Bergstrom on the benches in front of EAA Warbird HQ one day? I was sitting right beside you while you were talking to Dennis…he said you’ve purchased every copy of his yearly book ‘Gallant Warriors’ since it came out….or maybe I have the wrong person?
Nice shots of the Tuskegee P-51B, she was at center ice the whole time I was there and I never got any in flight shots of her…but did get the Boeing 307 when all the other photogs were in a meeting and missed her….it was a great time, doubt I’ll be there again this year, but some other time.
Mark
She (MH434) is just a beauty…fun to see the pics 4,000 miles away from DX and feel like I was right there, only 24 hours later.
Mark
I get regularly updated photos of the CWH Lysander almost every week from a friend up in Canada, and the Lysander is making good progress…I would have to guess it might fly later this summer, but don’t quote me on that.
Mark
Who? Guess not…
mark
Well…having seen some pics of the plane as supplied by a friend, I can tell you that ‘demolished’ is a relative term..it is restorable, and hopefully Lex will be able to do so. Great news for him and the Corsair fanatics amongst us. Let’s hope he can procede with a restoration and we’ll have another example in our midst.

Melvyn mentions Indian food…I do recall the first dinner we had in the UK was indian food, a proper ‘Balti’ at my friend Steve’s local indian restaurant…very good stuff, had a lamb dish myself…have yet to do it again since returning to the states, it just never occurs to me…but it was good.
I wonder….do the British know how much of a hit their brand of comedy is over here, from Monty to Fawlty to Benny and all the others and in-betweens? What ever happened to Dave Allen at Large? And is there ONE woman in the world that understands the unique appeal of Monty Python to guys? Methinks not….but i could be wrong…
