I have a nice link to NASA somewhere so you can boffinise on lift. Will dig it out later. Also explains the Bernoulli vs Newton theories on lift.
Well if an airfield the size and quality of Sywell, with its vintage-friendly runways, are prepared to hold an unrestricted fly-in, I think you should have a VAC open-day there every year. Sad how things have turned out with Turdy though.
This is just the lead into the incipient autorotation stage not while the spin is fully developed. Try not to get ahead of the game. The rolling moment is explained in the same terms as my book as on Wikipedia, which I think gives a pretty good account of what happens.
The yaw moment comes in because of the differential drag betwen the down-going (more stalled) and up-going (less-stalled) wing.
..and I don’t start PoF until next Monday, D 😉
Hey well-done, an open fly-in at last!
Can we have one in the middle of the year for 2007?
Are you familiar with the Gossamer, which I think or a replica does now hangs in the Science Museum in London?

Your best bet perhaps is to send Dr Bill Brooks at Pegasus an email. He’s entering a foot-launched jobbie into one of those “bird men” competitions where they jump off a pier (and sponsored by Red Bull). He may be able to point you in the right direction…
Thanks Ollie!
HANGAR 😉
Requirements? Fifty pounds please!
You can’t really get a 7600GT for much less than £90. Isn’t the 6600 a smite faster than a 7300?
FS-X vs FS2004. Same settings more or less 😉
Key, the providers of this forum, are I believe the primary distributors for current edition of the book and is available through their online shop portal.
Their toybox. That’s why. 🙂
I don’t want to spend more than £60
Says it really, doesn’t it? 😉
Isn’t Illy-2 OpenGL? Can’t remember. Some cards still throw a sicky if it is not DirectX
I have a Nvidia 6600 with 256MB RAM which runs FS2004 quite well and Illy-2 is blindingly quick being an “old” game. The card transforms your general game performance without spending a fortune on the latest and greatest geek route. The 6000-series Nvidia card is getting on a bit now but as said above a 6800 (somewhat faster) should be within your price range.
In the case of MSFS, I suspect that FS doesn’t totally make use of your graphics card. This is Microsoft after all who are not entirely known for 3D efficiency so sticking that extra RAM on your motherboard comes in handy.
FS-X Demo seems to run faster comparitively to my FS2004 install. Any thoughts? More 3D-efficient, or is it just because the demo is cut down?
I have a Fuji 6900 from the same era so am in the same boat and now being “between jobs” need to be careful with my savings. What’s your budget out of interest?
Nikon and Canon have just bought out new upgrades to their “low-end” (he termed loosley) dSLR in the form of the Nikon D80 and Canon 400D. The Nikon D70 and Canon 350D therefore have been replaced, so prices should start to fall as remaining stock is pushed. If you can do without 10 megapixels, this may be the way to go.
I’m tempted to scan e-bay and see if there are any appetising deals to be had. I wouldn’t be surpised to see prices between £200-400 for either makes and depending on the model. Having had a play with the Canon 300D and 350D, there seem to be substantially less if not any shutter lag.
Nice one. Does this mean you will “go solo” soon?
Have you looked at http://fly.dsc.net ?
The chap who has done this is a very clever in two regards. 1. He is a good programmer. 2. He has been able to get his hands on all the relevant aeronautical and meteorological data, which as I understnad, has been a bureaucratic stumbling block in the past. “Not for approved use” etc but if it helps a few more people by being more efficient, i.e. fast and user-friendly, then so be it in my book.
For example, I can all today’s TRAs in one click.
