What was Class B? It’s all JAR-come-EASA now, CS23 covers MTOM <5700KG, CS25 >5700KG MTOM. Both cats are roughly equal to the American FAR23/FAR25 regs.
If Britain wants it, I guess they must get Europe to want it also?
Errrr… this was posted on 1st April 2007 😉
Just out of interest, do Spits have a Fatigue Index as per Chippys/Bullodgs?
Any photos regardless of quality would be appreciated. 🙂 What paint scheme will it get I wonder?
Just out of interest, did ‘RB have any wartime career? I know the reg says “built in 1947” but airfield scuttlebutt was she was a few years older than that. Probably just tittle-tattle but hey worth asking.
My guess is because ASB have had various approved mods done, they’ve stuck with the N reg. The mods would already be approved in the US and there would be no need to have them further approved within Europe. However if those mods were US-approved before 2003(?) they already get EASA approval and so theoretically the Stearmans could be on a G- But there also the odd few maintenance issues too where the N system is less restrictive than a G- …
It would be interesting to know how much labour-saving technology Cessna uses for its light singles. I think they run the production alongside their jets so I guess this helps.
AIUI Piper are still very labour-intensive and in my view there is no coindence here when looking at their high asking prices.
VX as a completely outside observer there seems to be a lot of rumour and not much anyone can put down for certain, including the Oz issue. Whatever the politics it is a type that many would agree should not be priced and red-taped out of existence. 🙂
TT no need to feel silly, as pointed out, it has been flown by so many people continually that it shouldn’t just be left to rot.
So will the Blackburn engine be kept I wonder? Rex I recall was one of the only few people who could rebuild one and indeed did on ‘RB.
Attached is a view of the office. True single-lever operation with no mixture lever. To stop the engine I recall you have to kill the fuel and rich cut it by opening the throttle.
Just below the combing (not pictured) is a P-type compass. Quite a natty instrument, no need to fiddle with a DI anymore, I reckon every light aircraft should have one!
Thanks Albert, I see they are also advertising for new walkers this year. ASB’s site has been resigned for the new sponsor.
I stumbled across rfinder today on pprune. Might be useful in a few months time 😉 so bookmarked.
Employee costs seem to suck about 50% of anyone’s profits. See Airbus
Seem to recall it was a few of the guys who run the auster club? Somethign about might wanting to still do aerial work? (yeah right)
Sometimes (but not always) sense seems inversely proportional to age with light aircraft owners. But then I am young and jaded 😮
Yes I had forgotten seeing ‘RB sat outside at Sywell afterward. I believe it was acquired by the last owner roughly when noises were being made about Austers being officially orphaned and put onto PFA Permits. The acquisition would have therefore been viable; Auster owners seem to need lots of patience and money operating on a full CofA. However PFA was not to be and said owner is a lucky so-and-so having a moved onto a new job flying around Oz (very jealous)
I guess therefore it has been kept outside for almost 2.5 years?
Again glad something’s been done. I though this was to be another unloved airframe destined for the scrapper.
Well done Eggesford, it was sat outside for far too long at a neighbouring strip. Was there much work to do? Hope Chris gave them a good deal.
It was last operational with Rex Ford, who did the maintenance, at Sywell before he had to move on and so the RB Group came to an end. Probably the only place you could hire for £35-40 per hour. As the website indicated it had quite an active life at Sywell, for which the museum may have some info on. Tomcat??
‘RB was my first Auster experience 🙂
I think the Gatwick landing fee is fairly high. Wouldnt be surprised if it’s £200+ for a light single.
Most I paid was £128 at Schiphol for a Warrior about 5 years ago. Luckily it was split four ways amongst the occupants. The taxi ride into town was almost as eye-watering, about £35-40 😮 Apparently we should have gone to Lelystad and got the train in.
Nice, do you know who the artist is?
