F-2 flight squad newly established under 8th Hikoutai, 3rd Koukuudan, JASDF, at Misawa AB, Aomori Prefecture. Assigned two F-2.
All about 20 F-4 of same Hikoutai will retire by end of 2008. Replaced by about 10 F-2 in each of 2008 and 2009, for total about 20 F-2.
By 2001 March, under 3rd Koukuudan, 3rd Hikoutai was first F-2 squadron, and replaced F-1.
After training, assigned intercept missions, from 2004 March.
After next two years, same air base will be the only JASDF Koukuudan with two F-2 Hikoutai.

A mid-air explosion sent a decades-old Korean Air Force RF-4C reconnaissance plane crashing amid thick smoke into a mountain yesterday morning in Pyeongchang, Gangwon, a Defense Ministry official said.
The 34-year-old captain, only identified by his surname Ryu, was rescued dangling from a tree.
The 26-year-old first lieutenant, Yu, received a minor injury on his face.

Accident photos look like the the Phantom II landed inverted, so haven’t seen a clear photo of its tail fin, for its serial number.

From early June 2008, Okadama AP air traffic will be controlled by JGSDF Hokubu Houmen Koukuutai (JGSDF Northern Air Group).
First time JGSDF controls an air region.
JASDF already controls four air regions, including Chitose (Hokkaidou), Misawa (Aomori Prefecture).
