Starfighters plans to use its growing fleet of F-104 fighter jets to launch payloads on suborbital flights from its base at the Kennedy Space Center.
Under the plan, the Mach 2 jet would fly to an altitude of 60,000 feet and then fire off a 19-foot, 900-pound rocket with a payload attached, according to a NASA press release.

On 18 May 2012, Pei 13 (retired ROCAF fighter pilot) and friends went to check the C/N plates in the F-104s displayed at Cheng Gong Ling, Ji Ji, and Shui Li.
(Gory details skipped.)
Conclusions:
Cheng Gong Ling F-104J is 4519.
Ji Ji F-104J is 4506.
Indeed, its cockpit still has its compass calibration sheet, dated 80.01.19 (I guess 1991.01.19), and signed by Tao (technician’s family name).
Shui Li F-104DJ is 4595.

Lan Zhou AF, PLAAF.
In the morning, at 4,700 m, rear canopy shattered, and wounded co-pilot.
Emergency landed.
Pilot (student) was ZHU Zhen Hua.
Co-pilot (instructor) was ZHANG Jian Xing, with 2,300+ hours.
8:21 AM, took off, for training.
8:55:01 AM, Zhang was instructing Zhu for a second dive and climb, when rear canopy shattered, wounded Zhang’s head, and air flow ripped off his oxygen mask.
Air flow also shook Zhu, who had just one sortie for over an hour as pilot with this fighter type.
8:55:28 AM, Zhu declared emergency, and attempted to stabilise the diving fighter.
The fighter climbed to 5,000 m soon.
Blood on Zhang’s eyes and visor partly blinded him.
Zhang lowered his seat, and saw the fighter had dived from 6,000 m to 2,000 m.
8:58:25 AM, fighter warned about extreme AOA and overload.
Zhang pulled back the stick, and throttled down.
Zhu collaborated, and the fighter levelled at 1,900 m.
Radio was damaged, and pilots couldn’t contact ground controller.
Zhang’s mouth was wounded, and couldn’t talk with Zhu.
Zhu looked back, saw the blood on Zhang, didn’t know how wounded was Zhang, but Zhu felt through the stick that Zhang was awake and controlling the fighter.
8:59 AM, they stabilised the fighter.
9:03 AM, they struggled, and adjusted to RTB mode.
9:12:47 AM, they got into the landing course.
9:16 AM, emergency landed.

One year and one month after 3.11 earthquake and tsunami, F-2 training resumed, at Matsushima AB, Miyagi Prefecture.
First F-2 that landed was F-2B #124.
Pilots were Lieutenant Colonel Hama Hiroshi and Captain Takahashi Naoki.
Hama was CO, 21st Hikoutai, 4th Koukuudan, based at Matsushima AB.
During 3.11, #124 survived because it was at Misawa AB, Aomori Prefecture, for scheduled maintenance.

In August 2009, in Fu Jian Province, at Fu Zhou Yi Xu AB, a dude with family name Huang took some photos of the road signs, facilities, and warplanes.
He uploaded an one minute vid to the Web, and got 15K hits.
He was arrested, charged, pleaded guilty, and recently sentenced to jail for one year two months, albeit probation for one year six months.
