13:45, above Enshuunada Sea, during trianing with UH-60 SAR helicopter, left refuelling pod below left wing, malfunctioned, and could not retract refuelling hose.
Diameter, eight cm. Length, 30 metres.
15:10, at 330 metres above sea, dumped refuelling hose into sea, 65 km south of Hamamatsu City, after other helicopters and transport aircraft assured no ship.

11 March 2011, at Matsushima AB, 10 F-2 and two T-4 were parked on apron.
15 mechanics were maintaining them.
Matsushima SAR Squadron had 76 personnel.
At earthquake magnitude above five, aircraft should scramble, and assess damage.
Although UH-60J and U-125A were outside, squadron CO decided aircraft to not take off.
Fixed wing aircraft front landing gear were sideway.
During consequent earthquakes, helicopter rotary wings may hit fuselage.
Anyhow, blowing snow caused bad visibility.
At base command centre, base commander learnt from TV, forecast of six metres tsunami coming to Oshika Peninsula in 10 minutes.
Or, coming to base in 20 minutes.
14:56, base commander ordered all personnel to escape to designated buildings.
Exercise in one year and half ago, all personnel escape took above 20 minutes.
Inspired by 2010 February earthquake in Chile, all aircraft scrambled and escaped to Komatsu AB, Ishikawa Prefecture, but preparation took one hour.
Tsunami warning increased to 10 metres.
900 personnel escaped to designated buildings.
68 minutes after earthquake, tsunami arrived as 1.5 metres of mud sea, and damaged electricity generators.
Night, one helicopter arrived above base, and communicated with base commander.
Next morning, six functional snow-plowers and trucks.

‘News of Top Gun 2 – a potential sequel to one of my all-time favorite films – inspired me to make a special stop in San Diego last month to visit a few of the iconic film locations of Top Gun.
And by the way, did you know the majority of Top Gun was filmed in sunny San Diego?’
So, on Monday, 5 December 2011, I went to the Mitsubishi Minato Mirai Industrial Museum in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan… and it closes on Mondays.

Pilot was JIANG Yi Kuan.
2:50 PM, took off, for training.
42 seconds later, climbed to 300 m, loud noise, and aircraft began to shake.
Pilot scanned his instruments, saw left engine lost power, and shut down left engine.
He tried to contact the ground controller, but no response, and presumed the radio was also out.
After much manoeuvring, to avoid the civilian airport and town to his right, flew above the air base, and rocked his wings to alert the controller.
The controller reportedly realised his trouble, and cleared the traffic.
Nine minutes after take off, aircraft emergency landed.
Left engine auxiliary intake valve cracked, and debris damaged turbine blades.
Monday, 26 March 2012:

Sea Gull SAR Squadron, ROCAF, based at Chia Yi AB.
About 9:20 PM, during medevac sortie from Chia Yi, to Lan Yu Island, Tai Tung, disappeared from radars, and crashed into sea.
Six crew and passengers.
Pilot: Major LU Zheng.
Co-pilot: Captain HONG Shi Hao.
Flight engineer: Senior Master Sergeant CAI Guo Hui.
Medical officer: First Lieutenant CHEN Bing Hong.
Two medics: Senior Master Sergeant CHEN Jun Hong, and Staff Sergeant CAI Yi Zhe.
Five missing.
Cai the lightly wounded medic claimed he was thrown off the helo, rescued by target fishing boat, and delivered by coast guard boat to Lan Yu Island.
6:42 PM, 70 NM southeast of Lan Yu Island, a Taiwanese fishing boat, the Jia Yu Fa, had an Indonesian crew member with heart discomfort, and requested air rescue.
ROCAF sent 7017.
7:40 PM, refuelled at Ping Tung South AB, Ping Tung County.
9:14 PM, arrived at target area, and prepared for hoisting.
Fishing boat captain HONG Qing An claimed helo crew contacted him by radio, and told him to concentrate on the helo spotlight.
The helo would hover above his boat, and hoist down a basket/stretcher.
About two NM from his boat, he heard the rotor noise, and saw the helo crashed into sea.
His boat immediately went to crash site, and contacted the coast guard boat Xun Hu 3 (“Patrol Protect 3”).
With her spotlight, the fishing boat discovered some debris, then found and rescued Cai the medic.
After she and Xun Hu 3 loitered for a while, she returned to Tai Tung Port.
7017 had 3,400+ hours.
On 26 March, in the morning, training flight to Taipei City.
