8 March 2012:
At Matsushima AB, aircraft damaged by tsunami include: 18 F-2, three T-4, five UH-60J, two U-125, over 100 ground vehicles, and military materiel.
After examination, six F-2 can be repaired.
Others scrapped.
Loss is 79.1 billion Yen.

After one year, buildings still damaged, and damaged aircraft and vehicles still stored.
Tarmac where aircraft parked, is empty.

CSIST (Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology) Rui Yuan. UAV.
ROCA.
About 7 AM, during test flight, above the sea, near Tai Ma Li, Tai Tung County, lost contact, and became MIA.

First ROCA UAV “gone Elvis”.

It has up to eight hours of fuel, and during contact loss, its software is designed to auto-RTB before it has bingo fuel.

Air defense radars and ROCN ships on east coast are searching for it.

7 March 2012:
JMOD chooses Kawasaki as developer of UH-X to replace 142 JGSDF UH-1.
Develop candidates were Fuji and Kawasaki.
Hope to condition UH-X cost to 1 billion Yen each, same as UH-1.
From this fiscal year, for seven years, assign 28 billion Yen to develop UH-X.

Kawasaki developed OH-1.
First cost was 700 million Yen each.
Arose to 1.5 billion Yen each.
Final cost was 2.4 billion Yen each, and produced 32 aircraft.

Kawasaki will develop UH-X from OH-1 to cut cost, but doubtful to produce an 1 billion Yen UH-X from a 2.4 billion Yen OH-1.

Red Arrows’ first female pilot takes ground role

The first woman to fly with the Red Arrows display team is to move to a ground-based role.

Flt Lt Kirsty Stewart – previously Moore – 33, joined the Lincolnshire-based unit in 2010.

JCG, based in Okinawa Prefecture.
14:40, during test flight, 69 km north of Tarama Island, Okinawa Prefecture, altitude 2,100 m, idled left engine, attempted to restart engine, and failed.
15:20, emergency landed at Ishikaki AP, Ishikaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture.
Runway closed.
Two civilian departure flights delayed 20 minutes.

Five crew not wounded.

Before noon, took off, at Ishikaki AP, for scheduled test flight.

6th Squadron, 439th Composite Wing, ROCAF, based at Ping Tung AB.
1:50 PM, while replacing and pressurising nose tires of C-130, tire(s) over-pressurised and exploded.

Two wounded.
Corporal ZHANG Hui Meng.
Employee LIN Chao Mao (58).

Zhang was seriously wounded: facial fracture, and emergency treated at Kao Hsiung 802 General Hospital.

Lin’s right wrist and leg fractured, and right chest and abdomen bashed. Emergency treated at Bao Jian Hospital.

Engine trouble warning light.
Possibly foreign object in engine oil.

Pilot was Captain (39).
Co-pilot was First Lieutenant (28).

11:00, took off, at Akeno Base.
