Japanese article or essay dated 2011.12.11. Four pages.
Claims on 2011.03.11, Matsushima AB had 28 aircraft.
10 aircraft were malfunctioned or under maintenance.
18 were flyable.
About 14:00, because of bad weather, all training flights cancelled.
14:46, when earthquake happened, six aircraft were in hangars, and 12 were being checked or towed to hangars.
Matsushima AB received from weather agency, warning that big tsunami would arrive at the AB.
14:56, AB commander ordered all personnel to retreat to roofs.
15:54, after almost one hour, tsunami arrived at the AB, and 28 aircraft were disabled.
In hindsight, some commentators suggested some or all of the 18 flyable aircraft could have scrambled, took off, and escaped to other air bases or airports, during that one hour.
Article author, who claims to have flown fighters for above 3,000 hours, answered this was impossible.
After the earthquake, the AB had to check the runway for crack or damage, to avoid FOD.
After the tsunami warning, the AB did not know exact arrive time of tsunami.
Ground crew and pilots would take time to prepare the aircraft for take off.
From these procedures, to until an aircraft moved by taxiway to runway for take off, would take 30 to 40 minutes.
AB commander and senior officers decided to save the combat strength of the AB, that is, its personnel, over the aircraft.

I noted the Attrition article has moved from the rear 1/3 of the mag, to the front 1/3 of the mag.
It’s the first article that I read, if partly because I’m an usual suspect in its (voluntary) contributors list. 8D
At first glance, the new paragraph-based format looks more space-efficient than the previous table-based format.
However, IMO the new “D: Oct 22” date format will be a pain, when an accident date isn’t conveniently in the same year as the mag.
In this January 2012 issue, all the main Accident Reports are in 2011, but this article tends to freshly record accidents that happened one or more years ago, unless TPTB or the editors decide to no longer record accidents that happened in previous years.
By “freshly”, I mean: not as Accident Report Updates.
Second, I again complain that we (voluntary) contributors don’t get free BEvERages and pizzas in return for our (voluntary) contributions. 8D

A second U.S.-made advanced surveillance aircraft has been delivered to Korea’s Air Force, the state procurement agency said Tuesday.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said the Air Force will soon deploy its second E-737 by Boeing.
Based on Boeing’s 737-700, the airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft earned the moniker “Peace Eye” after a naming contest in 2008.

In January 1946, a RAF DC-3 Dakota emergency landed on a beach on Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
Brit and US military, plus up to 3,000 local villagers, collaborated to repair the aircraft, level the beach, build a temporary runway, and after about 40 days, the aircraft departed by air.
In November 2001, a memorial monument was unveilled at Kousen Kaigan (Kousen Coast), former Aikawa Machi (Aikawa Town), now part of Sado City after 2004/03/01.
Now, a movie titled “Tobe! Dakota” (literally “Fly! Dakota”) is being made.
On or about 2011/12/08, a DC-3 was bought in Thailand, disassembled, delivered to Sado by ship, and would be re-assembled for filming.
