Gettin married AFTER UNI? How are old are you! 😮
Congrats all the same! 😀
Caseless ammo
Thanks guys.
It seems that with the advantages of the caseless ammo more delelopment would be put into it, possibly using it in the next-gen weapons, unless there are any disadvantages such as less accuracy, muzzle velocity etc, anyone know details?
Sounds like a benificial tade for everyone involved, and will help cement Israel-Turkish relations further.
Also, it shows that Israel can get along with an Islamic neighbour, despite what some misguided few on both sides say. Peace out everyone.
Herk shot down?
According to BBC news the aircraft was a C-130J, about 20 people were on board, hopefully no more than this. One on board was an Australian officer, fist to be killed in Iraq. R.I.P. guys.
Just read on Yahoo news that a militant group has claimed they shot the plane down with an anit tank rocket as it was flying at low altitude.
This seems a little inplausable to me, since they would only be able to do this if the herk. was flying very low and fairly slowly, but who knows. If anyone gets additional info please post.
China re-starting Tu-16 production
Last i heard, the chinese were starting a new production run on the old Tu-16 badger, to be used as a cruise missile platform and for other such duties. What role would they be using the Tu-160 in?
Plus, i think the chinese would be getting a good buy with the Tu-22. It would really improve thier maratime strength and give them a platform capable of protecting their extensive costline and ocean territories.
EuroFighter Gun
Eurofighter for the RAF DOES have the gun installed, a 27mm Mauser actually.
The original RAF plan was not to include a gun, but thay found that this affected the balance and aerodynamics in a bad way. At first they decided to solve this by fitting something the same size and weight as the gun(?), and after spending quite a sum of money on developing this concept and having some difficulty, they realsied it would actually be easier and cheaper just to fit the gun anyway.
I’m not sure if the RAF will be purchasing ammunition for the guns, but i imagine that since they have the guns now they will. The whole episode also doesn’t show the RAF at its best, as not fitting a gun would be quite a big mistake in itself, but then wasting the time and cash on this project was a little stupid.
‘And I have seen several ppl arguing that the EF2000 who performed that day was a full ton lighter than normal Eurofighter.’
Production EF2000s will be considerably lighter than the test aircraft currently in service, since they won’t have to carry around test instruments and data recording equipment, so this acounts for the extra weight loss here.
Raptor or JSF?
If i was at the U.S. DoD, and i had to cut either F/A-22 or JSF, i would have to drop the Raptor, on the following grounds:
JSF looks to be a capable air-air platform (once developed)
JSF has more variants and can therefore fulfill more roles than the Raptor
JSF has huge export potential
JSF is multi-role, cheaper to have one multi role aircraft than two or three with separate roles.
Don’t get me wrong, Raptor looks brilliant, but in the end it may come to having one or the other if politicians get their way. But should this be the case, perhaps there might be a few Raptors avaliable at bargain prices for the RAF? 🙂
Here’s hoping!!!!!!!!
Av-8B
The RAF Harrier Gr.7s in service fly regularly with a pair of LGBs, but at the cost of having to use a slightly less able targetting pod on their centerline station. Still, it does the job since harriers are usually used as support aircraft and not precision strategic bombers, and two LGbs to a single one gives the Gr.7 a slight advantage over the AV-8B in terms of usefulness.
Read the thread on microwave lift engines. Looks like some really impressive new technology beng developed in the UK (about time too, all the money we spend on R&D).
Finally, the UK government knows a winner when it sees one. PATENT IT ALREADY!!! Think of the money the UK could make…..bwah ha ha , ha ha ha.
All for the good of humanity of course.
New Fuels
How about an alcohol based fuel? It is completely renewable and could probably be developed into jet fuel as it has been for use in cars.
RAF EF2K’s have racked up plenty of flight time, even faster than originally predicted. Luftwaffe and other EF2k operators even came to visit the RAF station (Warton i think) where the RAF is doing their flight testing to see how the RAF were doing so well!
