WF922 FLASHBACK!
Seeing this restoration, I couldn’t help going to my slide archives(as I do occasionally!) to see if I have ever photographed WF922 when in service and to compare my photo with how it looks today. Bingo! I found I photographed it on the approach to Boscombe Down when it was operated by A&AEE on 14th August 1970, 35 years ago! Compare the ‘then and now’ photos and what a splendid and accurate restoration MAM have done. 10/10! 😉
If you can pick up a copy of “Spitfire Survivors Round the World” – Riley & Trant 1986 – we pretty much mentioned all the a/c that were used in the film.
I’ve got one – damned useful book that! Wish they would have continued that series?
what about that Blue Hurricane then…???! :p 😀
Neil
Don’t go there??? 😎 Latest subject is “Twilight Tear” with no photo of the artwork available..hmmm :diablo:
Albert Ross ??
Are you still alive ???
Don’t see you in Smith’s these days – in fact I haven’t seen you for such a long time, I assumed that you had passed away !!!
BTW, I remember seeing the Fairey Gyrodyne outside an ATC hut in Southampton many years ago…….
Ken
In Smiths nearly EVERY day at 1230, unless I am away with work! Thought YOU had died also! Changed your reading habits, or fed up waiting for Smiths to reorganise that chaotic congested area?
Ask Albert?
Here it is, deep in the bowels of my slide collection – XH562 of 9 Squadron at Christchurch on 2 March 1972 with ‘zapped’ roundel. Any photo, ‘ask Albert’!
Why not go to see the Fairey Jet Rotodyne prototype at the Museum of Berkshire Aviation. It’s a great place to wander around and have a chat with the volunteers who run it – they’re a mine of information.
If you have a search through the forum archives you’ll find a thread from the forum gathering there a couple of months ago.
Rob
Sorry Robbo, that’s not the same machine! That’s the Fairey Jet GYRODYNE.
Badminton Air Day
If anyone ever went to the Badminton Air Days during the ’80s, that was a fantastic annual event organised by just three enthusiasts. The aircraft landed right in front of you and one year they had a flypast by a Handley Page Herald and a Trident (just a slight detour en-route to Bristol Airport!), also a demo by a Hunter from Boscombe Down (on a Sunday!) and the biggest coup must have been the Chilean Air Force “Halcones” Aerobatic Team with their Pitts Specials, that they ‘persuaded’ to come over one week early before they went to IAT Farford!! Incredible variety and show all on a grass airfield!
Royal International Abingdon Tattoo…I presume that’s the one you mean,Janie?????? 😉
Hooray, it’s catching on…..where are the new posters Neil? :diablo:
I suspect the Spit looks ‘decidedly droopy’ due to the weight of all those coats of paint!! Does anyone know why the Wapiti has blue/white/blue roundels(Greek?).
Well done Mark, splendid stuff – any more, Dakotas perhaps?
That’s why this thread is for model fans. It’s part and parcel of being a commercial aviation fan. Lot’s of magazines for ‘real’ airliners do model info and adverts as well Mr Ross. :dev2:
Wings 900 is a good site, as is http://www.400scalehangar.net and http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com
Yes, I know, I wasn’t sure if you were aware of this site that is dedicated to this subject, where an awful lot of collectors would appreciate your postings.
It was just a suggestion by pointing out that excellent site, but by all means carry on here! Nice to see ANYTHING in airliners anywhere!
The days when the Red Arrows were exciting!!! Every time I went to Kemble to watch them practise, it got more exciting with the Gnats during the ’60s and ’70s…then they got the Hawks!
Superb stuff, but suggest you all continue this thread here:
http://www.wings900.com/news/index.php
as this site is really for ‘real’ airliners. Have a look and I’ll see you there maybe?
Yes, before the Wasp appeared, there were just a few Skeeters, Fireflies and the odd Moth and Dragonfly! 😀
MS.733 Halcyon
MS.733 Alcyon actually!!
Very nice, but who’s smart An-12 is that?
