And me once more, also a very long time ago.
…and what happened to you? Presume you escaped the Salt Mines??
This is me after achieving my ultimate goal a few years ago!! I hasten to add I had just filled a sick bag before this was taken :p
Nige,
The Jet flew twice today with AC at the helm. First for a few circuits and then a full 45 minute test flight that all went well without any major snags. There will be a program of a few more test flights before any paint is applied. Anyone got an idea for a paint scheme…….Blue Diamonds or 4FTS are possible, but are there anymore schemes out there that are interesting?
No,,no, “BLUE DIAMONDS” will do nicely Glen, as originally planned…PLEASE!! 😉 Will be a superb companion to your “Black Arrows” T.7!
How about a Corgi of the flourescent orange B.2s9o used by the Luftwaffe as test-beds?
BTW any chance of a 1/32 or 1/48 of ‘Black six’???
Geoff.
Yes, have an orange German Canberra short-listed. By the way, they were not ‘flourescent’ oarnge, just plain ‘orange’.
As promised here’s my Frog kit of the Canberra. Again 1/72 scale. 99% finished. Needs varnishing. Quite a hard-to-find kit these days, but well recommended…
Very nice! Shouldn’t be too hard to find, as first issued by FROG, then NOVO and then Revell, possibly others.

Biggin Hill Sunday
Sunday was a much better day at Biggin Hill with full sunshine up until around mid-day when it clouded over, but blue ‘holes’ kept appearing. Everything flew and the Sea Hawk arrived from Yeovilton about 1215, then flew with the Sea Fury. The Dornier flew at 1530 but weather was somewhat overcast then, so I left before the rush! Here are a couple of shots.
Regarding Gatwick’s Comet, I can confirm that as of August 25th this aircraft is still alive and well…
On 17th August I emailed the following to Gatwick Press Office:
Hello
I’m writing concerning both the Comet and Trident (both grounded airframes) located at Gatwick. I have been informed that both of these aircraft have been scrapped. Question: can you confirm this? I’m very much concerned about the future of our aviation heritage and accordingly I hope that these rumours are just that…
I look forward to your reply.
Kind Regards
Phillip Rhodes
On 25th August they emailed the following
Hi Phillip
Sorry for the delay in responding to you. The Comet and Trident had to be removed from our viewing platform as we’ve started construction work up there. They’ve been put on the airfield for safekeeping until a permanent place has been found for them. They’ve not been scrapped – please don’t worry!
Kind Regards
Karen (Gatwick Press Office)
It’s quite obvious that Gatwick Press Office know nothing about aircraft and are referring to the Comet NOSE and Herald on the viewing terrace roof.
If you had elaborated on the ‘Comet used for ground handling’, they might have understood. Am sure both the Comet 4B and Trident have been scrapped!
could somebody make sure they get good pictures of all attendants and have a good day as i cant make it.
I photograph aircraft, not attendants! :diablo: I leave the car parks to them.
Decided to give both Yeovilton & Biggin Hill a miss today due to the appalling weather!
It’s 1220 here are no sign of a break in the solid cloud and drizzle,so will have a go at Biggin tomorrow!
Thanks Les. As Corgi’s Aviation Archive and researcher, you know this is one of mine and I thank you for your kind words. Several more Canberra and B-57 models to come!
However, the rules of this forum are no advertising or promotions, so this thread may get removed. Before it does – enjoy and go out and buy one!!!
Naah, that’s not a Sabre engine. It’s got a prop on the front!! Doesn’t look like an General Electric J47 to me??
It’s white, which possibly makes it a transport. Beverley??
Thanks Glen I guess I must have missed it when I looked at the site 😮
I take it then as the rear gate is know closed if want to visit AV8 its a case of turn up at the main gate, state your intentions, then follow the perimeter track around the inside – observe the runway traffic lights – then round to AV8. I only ask as not being a pilot or having any immediate connection with aviation ( other than as an enthusiast ) I tend to find that access to air side is normally frowned upon at most airfields for us oiks 🙂
The challenge is getting to AV8. The reward is the excellent food!
The Dornier is scheduled to fly in formation with the Catalina on Saturday around 1630 and on Sunday around 1530. Does anyone know how sick the Dutch Connie is, as the last I heard they will still trying to make Biggin?
