Sure Albert.
Can’t see the problem however. On the other hand, you can download as many low res clips and high res stills (albeit watermarked) as your computer will stand, through a broadband connection, which you may then play with to your heart’s content – for free.
The sound is original, and I have projected the low res film to a group to demonstrate the site to great approval. The high res stuff is worth it if you want a particular something at 100% quality; but for general research, info, and the chance to hear (for instance) Jacquiline Cochran in 1942, as well as a host of others (Bob Stanford Tuck growning mushrooms!) it’s unbeatable. I found footage of the prototype Seagull V being fired off from Farnborough’s catapult in 1933 – priceless even at low res.
Cheers!
Yes, I have downloaded several clips, but the quality is only just viewable!
Albert, I’d love to, but I never have really cracked that photo-posting thing, plus the fact that my e.mail is at work and my photos are at home. Sorry.
If I can crack it, anyone can!! Scan your photos at 72dpi and make then 25cm wide, that go to ‘manage attachments’ which opens up another window. Click ‘Browse’ to find your photo and click ‘Upload’. If the file is too large, it’ll tell you. Good Luck!
Yes, British Pathe News have some real gems in their archives. Only trouble is they want £25 per clip (not per video) if you want a VHS cassette and not even DVD!!!
Didn’t say it was my office did I…? 😀
Aaah ‘The’ Office…as per BBC1, perhaps??
Do you mean this one? You don’t half test my archives out, don’t you?
This is Canberra PR.3, WE142, that I photographed being scrapped at Wroughton on 6 July 1970. Guess the nose was transported the short distance to Chippenham.
I think it’s actually only £10 per car, which is well worth it. I have been going there for many years and providing the weather is good, the best day is on Sunday as they have a small flying display in the afternoon and the trophies are presented at the end of the afternoon. Lovely setting with trees, park and lake and if the Mrs. gets bored, there’s always Woburn House to look round. All attendees MUST be DH, or DH-connected types, so you do get the odd Auster with a DH Gipsy engine! Also Skeeter G-BLIX is scheduled to go and expect the lovely Dragon G-ECAN will be there.
Heathrow nostalgia
First time that I recall getting photographed with a classic – Loftleidir DC-6 in the days at Heathrow when ‘BOAC takes good care of you’. Aged 11 on 7th August 1961 according to my spotting log book!
Sigh…
So Brewster F2A Buffalo HM-671 on display in the Aviation Museum of Central Finland is a figment of my overheated imagination? (OK, strkly speeking, its a development of the Buffalo, but…) And it’s in Finnish markings. What else do we want?
The perapatetic machine, is, indeed, ultra rare, but NOT unique.
Cheers!
Perhaps a photo or two!! On the ball as always JDK…10/10!
Excellent! How refreshing to see some nice clear non-air show shots. Any more?
This is the London-NZ Air Race which was won by Canberra PR.3, WE139, which now stands in the RAF Museum. WE142 also particpated, as well as BEA Viscount G-AMAV, a RNZAF HP Hastings, a KLM DC-6 and possibly others. Here are some photos that are in the Cosford Museum, together with the Viscount crews’ flying suits.
Haircut anyone?? 😮 White Waltham 14 May 1977 in front of Prince Charles!!
Jeff Hawke’s TB-25N ‘Miami Clipper’ N86427 taken at the 1978 Mildenhall Show. The aircraft was abandoned a year later at Malaga Spain when it damaged a wing during low flying! In 1985 it was rescued by the Museo del Aire and is now on display at Cuarto Vientos,Madrid.
Here is the same aircraft on the same day over Mildehall in August 1978 , shot from the tail turret of “Sally B”. That’s me in the white shirt in the nose, during that horrendously scary flight with Jeff Hawke!! 😮 😮
I’ll take a look tomorrow. She looked same as always yesterday… mind you I can only see the starboard side from the office!
‘Office’…what office? Last time we spoke you didn’t have an office?
Blimey! The only ‘Patsy’ I knew was in Eastenders! Can’t beat that, damn good start!
Ooo. sounds fun. I’ll see what the diary sa.
The diary says ‘Biggin Hill’ for me, if the weather is ok.
Can’t miss the Dutch Connie and Gannet on the programme!!
