Cosford’s Belfast NEVER was with Heavylift. The airline sponsored a free repaint if it was in Heavylift colours, so we had to live with. It served all its life as XR371 with the RAF.
And the Pup must’ve flown in that scheme for years!
Only swapped its brown wheel discs for red/white in 1970, which were repainted cream in 1984, then became ‘HAPPY’ in ’93 prior to current scheme.
It’s these details that help date photos like these.
It’ll take more than a couple of crusty gits to put me off 😉 and I’m sure today’s SVAS is open-armed to all ages, isn’t it?
Ohh, Betty will love you forever!!
E.mail me Lee. Lots of slides on file and shot two air-to-air before retirement also.
Will send you a PM Mark
Far too much for my wife’s liking!
1)Colour slides since 1966 – have around 250,000 on file!
2)Airline postcards, particularly airline-issued.
3)Anything on the Viscount and BAC One-Eleven.
4)Corgi diecast Aviation Archive models (by default, as I work for them!)
5)1/400 diecast airliners, mostly by Aeroclassics and Gemini Jets.
6)Plastic kits in 1/72 & 1/144th scales (build them when there are 26 hours in the day!) + decal sheets
7)Gerry Anderson memorabilia
8)Books – huge archive library.
Mark
Many thanks for all the effort, a great (and I hope continuing) post
Will it ever go longer than Bader ?Were the Provost pix at OW ??
Rgds
DC
Yes they are Dave. This was Shuttleworth’s first Provost, XF836, that was with them in the early ’70s and was sold to Alan House. Shuttleworth deemed it did ‘not fit in with their collecting theme’, being too modern….looks like they changed their mind?
Here is the actual aircraft in question, I believe – VH-AKY. I am presuming this was origiinally with the Singapore Air Defense Command and was restored to its delivery scheme?
I know the RNZAF Strikemasters all had to be re-sparred due to corrosion problems and in the end, they replaced them with the Aermacchi MB.339s because of this. I don’t know if Singapore had the same problems operating the type in very humid conditions, but I guess any still airworthy would have been completely overhauled and safe to fly.
The pic posted earlier is of “Tinks” on top of Crunchie Sponsored Stearman, She also poped up to see us at Sywell atop of the same A/C in UBB colours and im sure she will be abour next year too, well hopefully she will anyway 🙂
Me tinks she might :diablo:
The last time she came in nobody bothered………
Except us, thanks again Wes! 😉 😀
Alan.
…you’ve seen one Lanc flying, you’ve seen ’em all! 😉
Red and White  thats not what i saw when down in the hangar last week 😉
I think he means PINK!
‘Albert’ please pay attention, identified by me first in post 32 thanks! 😀
Well picture 91 definately has a ‘airflow’ Mk1 Ford Cortina Super in it although I cant see if it’s an estate or saloon! It’s the one with L plates for those who’ve yet to experiance such fine beasts! 😀
Touche! Identified twice and Mark never noticed! ho, hum!
How long did she wear KM-B for?
At a guess, 1968-80, looking at my photos but I stand to be corrected.
Weather permitting obviously. It will also be the last time she will fly in her current paint scheme, also any good ones you could send to us for the website/brochure entry.
Surely, you will want them in the new scheme for next year’s brochure?
…and would you be prepared to share the location and date with us? 🙂
Mark
Please pay attention Mark! Big Vern has already identified it as Coltishall in ’73 in his Post #37.
