After 7 years being sponsored by St.Ivel, the contract with Utterly Butterly has ended but they will be back for next year’s season with a new sponsor – Guilot skincare products and will be known as “Team Guilot”. Furthermore N54922 (the cowless Stearman) will be re-engined and fitted with a cowling, so they all look the same. Meteor F.8, WH291 of 79 Sqn., 229 OCU from Chivenor circa 1973 – one of the last Meteors in RAF service – location unknown.

Vampire T.11, XD452 at Salisbury Hall later went on a pole at RAF Cranwell, but corroded and had to be scrapped.

I did this a few years ago and all they had were three b/w photos, one of Freds Five and two of Simons Sircus taken air-to-air. None of the ground shots of the team + lion, but they may have unearthed something since then.
Fascinating stuff. Here are 2 snaps I took at a Culdrose air day possibly about 1960/1..(the trials Buccaneer was there in anti flash white…someone will know the date, I’m sure). Sorry about the quality..they are very old!
As I recall this was in fact Fred’s Five..but of course Fred couldn’t count, I remember the commentator saying. The smoke was multicoloured I think.
These would be Fred’s Five taken in July 1962. This team only operated for the one year and saw them at Upavon (50th Anniversary of military aviation) and Farnborough shows that year.Likewise “Simon’s Sircus” only operated for the one year – 1968.

RobMAc, thanks for the photo’ of the Sea Vixen you restored. Showing my ignorance, where is the ‘Midland Air Museum’. I would very much like to see the a/c. I cannot see from your photo’ what tail insignia it has, but I flew the a/c many times in 1969/70 when I was a staff instructor on 766 sqdn, and the a/c was assigned to that sqdn.
It’s at Coventry Airport and in 890 Squadron markings.
Septic – you take the prize for the earliest shot! I think this could be taken in the late ’50s, as it has yellow training bands painted on it. In the early ’60s it had dayglo orange paper stripes. Location looks like Little Rissington perhaps?

If this 748 is ferriable…how about the Science Museum airliner fleet at Wroughton? Surely a 748 would be a good fit there.
I didn’t realize this very successful British design was unrepresented in any UK museum. That’s unfortunate. The 748 is well-regarded over here in Canada also, having served well as the proverbial “DC-3 replacement” with a number of short-haul/bush operators. Yet, now that you mention it, I don’t think one is preserved here either. Some are still around–and some still operate–but none is in a museum collection iirc…Hm!

Yes indeed, it fits in with their collecting but not with their budget! Regret the SM are so tight and so beaurocratic that I can’t see anything else being added to the collection at Wroughton. They wanted a Viscount and had the chance to acquire G-CSZB of BAF immediately after its retirement at Southend. They took too long dithering over the price of it that it became unairworthy and then they wouldn’t pay for it to be roaded to the museum. Hence they had no Viscount, so I can’t see this 748 going there unless its donated to them and flown in for free!! 🙁
