    How about the SR.53.

But if it is the SR.53 why isn’t it white and weren’t two built.

    Septic.

You’ve answered your own question here? It’s not the SR-53 because BOTH of them were white(there were two of them) and it has nothing to do with ‘fly-by-wire’ technology. Here’s another section of it:

Don’s very good summary of the Avro 707 is good, but regret not correct. Here are a few more clues

    1) It’s British
    2) Only one was built.
    3) It was a pioneer in ‘Fly by Wire’ technology.

Possibly way off the mark here but could it be a Sud-Ouest S.O 9000 Trident 1

Farnborough or Paris Air Show 1953/54 ish
    Index no idea

I must admit, it does look rather like the Trident, but afraid not.

And it takes talent patience, practise, dedication, perseverance and down right hard work to take a decent photo, where as anyone can dream up a quiz.

Damn, I knew I was going wrong somewhere with my pan-frame-focus-and shoot technique for 40 years!!! :dev2:

    Mirage

    Le Bourget

    No idea

Nick – feel free to go elsewhere if it’s such a bore. Different people enjoy different aspects of histeric aviation.

    James,

The difference between a quiz and and posting an endless stream of Shuttleworth photos is that it takes brains to think up a quiz

Sorry,I digress, it’s not a Mirage at Le Bourget

Amazing, it’s 1615 and this thread has had 44 views in 16 hours and not ONE stab at an answer? Perhaps you are all ‘vertically challenged??

I took a similar photo of what I believe is the same location of the same enclosure two years ago.

Regarding cost. You don’t have to pay for anything except the entry, though walking and cycling is open to very few. You can watch the show from lots of locations, and though prime positions are difficult, it’s an airshow – not a car race, which are often real ripoffs.

Obviously the more coin you hand over the more you obtain.

Course you could try getting the array of an ‘ordinary’ Duxford show anywhere else in the Commonwealth. Methinks some people are taking their riches for granted.

Course, I’d be at the Oval avoiding the rain (I think a ticket for there could be a lot more now than DX IF you could get one!)

    You pays yr money…

…BUT it’s just not cricket!! 🙁 The high entry charge to Duxford Air Shows should be enough to allow you to look at and take photos of the participants close-up! There shouldn’t be an additional charge for the Flightline Walk, just so you can have a closer look at what you paid to see in the first place!

Sally be was shooting an approach at Redhill – but not landing, as it’s a grass field.

Correct, Albert. What was the show?

Well, the fact that its a grass airfield is not the reason for not landing, as I’ve seen ‘Sally B’ operate from Middle Wallop. I suspect the length of the grass strip with trees surrounding it are more of a factor. As ‘Sally B’ is in her ‘yellow tail era’, that must mean this was taken between 1984-88 and can only guess it was perhaps a Tiger Club Air Show, or vintage ‘fly-in’?

As much as I hate seeing our heritage go overseas, we shouldn’t be greedy as we already have one Lincoln at Cosford and I’m delighted that at last someone is going to save this from scrap! I have fond memories of this Lincoln, parked in the static at Farnborough Air Shows 1959-61 as G-APRJ of Napier Icing Research. Well done Mark and hope it is successful!

I can’t dispute it being from 28sqn,but my money is on it being a Vampire and not a Venom. It appears to have straight wings and no wingtip tanks.
The Spitfire is a Mk.XIX (19),but beyond that I can’t provide any info.

You’re absolutely right – I stand corrected! WL498 is indeed a Vampire and I forgot that 28 Squadron operated both types. This particular machine was relegated to an instructional airframe by March 1956, so this may account for it being ‘barged’ over to Hong Kong Island, as it was no longer airworthy.
The Spitfire is Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force.

Archer is correct on both points.

Stearman is at Cranfield (an airfield with a University)

And Sally B didn’t land at this venue, which HAS been mentioned for another pic, btw.

Sorry, West Malling (despite repeated asks) is NOT, repeat NOT featured as any of the unsolved venues. 😉

    “Sally B” at Redhill perhaps?

Very interesting! I was in Hong Kong with the RAF during 1979-81 and I recognise where these were taken, as these buildings still stand. Yes, it IS a Venom of 28 Squadron who were based at Kai Tak at the time.

Duxfordhawk, thanks for the kind comments, all the guys have worked really hard to get, and keep, the jets (especially the gnat) serviceable, and the pilots did a fantastic job, with a fairly small amount of practice. Seeing our jets up with the reds was superb!

And as for next year, if shows book us, we’ll be there, weather permitting!

    Dees

If you do any formation with the Reds like that again, PLEASE TELL THE COMMENTATOR TO ANNOUNCE IT and not wait until you’ve flown past!
A second pass would have given us photographers a fighting chance of getting a photo. 🙁
