    Dutch Beech

The Dutch Dakota Association brought their Beech 18 painted as a R.Neth.AF C-45. Can anyone confirm this is the same aircraft they had painted in RCAF colours and if so, how long has it been in Dutch markings? Appreciate any info on this machine?

    Albert Ross,

Did you really look down that whole list just to see what was NOT on it?

    .

Of course! We all know that at EVERY Shuttleworth Pageant they try to fly EVERYTHING they’ve got, which is the same formula every year, so you have a think about what COULD fly and see if anyone knows why it isn’t there.
There are some people here that visit Old Warden more than they have hot dinners, so I was sure of an answer! 😉

I have a pretty much treasured slide of THREE Lysanders flying in formation, not so long ago at Duxford, in the mid’90s – Shuttleworths + Sabena Oldtimers + G-BCWL(now with Kermit Weeks) while IWM’s G-LIZY was outside on the ground!

How much longer before the Bristol M.1 flies again?

Also, why isn’t the Gladiator on the list? Don’t tell me they have finally got it in for an overhaul and repaint in RAF colours….? 😮

just got permission from ‘her in doors’ so will be going on saturday, anyone know the best way off the m25 the website says come off at j4 any resone why? will coming up the a3 from portsmouth

I have no idea, as that’s completely wrong! If you come up the A3, join the M25 at J10 and head East and come off at J6 onto the A25 which runs parallel to the M25 to the south of it. If you leave it until J5 you will have past Biggin Hill, just can still get there off J5.

    Phantom brown trousers!

When I was in the RAF, I was in Air Traffic Control on Holbeach Range and we got to know the USAF F-4 pilots from the 48th TFW at Lakenheath, who used to be Range Officers. They all thought they could out-do each other with ‘flybys’ past the tower, so……the next day!!!
Now you wouldn’t get away with this on an operational USAF airfield, but on a bombing range…… This must be one of the scariest shots I have ever taken – I present to you Capt.Eric Davey of the 494th TFS, 48th TFW!!!
How I focused on this, God only knows…but a few seconds later 😮

Dragon Rapide G-ACTU was based at Heston from 1934 to ’36, then went to Croydon, followed by Western Airways of Weston-Super-Mare in 1938.
Take your pick? Perhaps these names may jog some senior reader’s memory?

This was reported soon after it happened in all the mags. I inspected this aircraft last weekend, which is still in damaged condition and needs replacement nose panels and other parts, but is repairable. Not been touched since the accident, as Kennet Aviation too busy with other projects.

Great stuff Will! Very nice to see the Devon repainted back with its correct serial and 1950s RAFTC scheme. I never did like it masquerading as a ‘Gulf Aviation Dove’ ! 😮

According to Damien’s ‘Thunder & Lightning’ website:

    http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/lightning/survivorspics1.html

In November 1999 XM172 left RAF Coltishall’s gate, leaving only the plastic Hurricane inside the base. The plan is to position her on a roundabout in Farnborough as a tribute to the aviation history of the town and the aircraft is pictured here on temporary display at the entrance to Wycombe Air Park (aka Booker airfield) where Parkhouse Aviation are restoring her in preparation for the move to Farnborough. On removal from Coltishall she was damaged in several places, faded, and had the tails and outer wings cut off. A visit to Booker six months later found her tail back on, damage to the spine repaired and the canopy, anti-glare panel and tail all repainted. Barry Parkhouse is working hard to restore the wings and would appreciate help, both financial and practical – if you fancy contributing, check out the Parkhouse Aviation web site for contact details and more information. XM172 spent a brief period in Jeremy Clarkson’s garden for his TV show ‘Speed’, but didn’t stay there no matter what you might have been led to believe! She also showed up in the static park at the 2000 SBAC display at Farnborough, but has now returned to Booker, where her paint is once again peeling, and one of her wings lies in the grass beside her…….

….looks like they may have given up! Any offers?

    Lightning F.1A XM172

XM172 is c/n 95059 and first flew on 10/10/60. It was delivered to No.56 Sqn. coded ‘S’ on 14/12/60, then recoded ‘B’ in early 1963 when it became part of “The Firebirds” Aerobatic Team at Wattisham(Photo #1 – third from the camera)In March 1965 it was transferred to No.226 OCU and wore 145 Sqn. markings(Photo 2 & 3 taken landing at Coltishall 26/4/68 and at Lakenheath 11/5/68). from 11/8/65-9/66 it went to 60 MU at Leconfield for major servicing and mods. Withdrawn from service about 6/74 and put on main gate at Coltishall 24/9/74 (Photo#4). Sold to a private buyer and transferred to Wycombe Air Park for restoration. Displayed at Farnbrough 2000 in partial restored state to 56 Sqn. “Firebirds” team colours and rumoured to be going on display there when finished. Currently still at Booker.
