Weren’t there 4 Valiants kept in flying condition until 1968 ? wasn’t the one at Hendon in a Bomber Command flypast when the Command was disbanded ? If so this could give an unbroken record for Vickers.
Only Valiant XD816 was flying in 1968, which appeared at Abingdon in June that year for the RAF’s 50th anniversary. XD818 at Hendon was grounded in 1965 and put on display at Marham before moving to Hendon.
Just a few more to keep you going.

1 F-86D Sabre 52-3638
2 Seahawks WF156 and WF200 at Lee-on-Solent June 1966
3 Belvedere HC1 XG453 at Seletar 1969? I have seen where this was destroyed by fire on start up on 18/03/69. It does not look firedamaged here but it does appear out of use.
4 Jet Provost T1 WV577 with an ex RAF comet in the background.
5 As 4
6 Twin Pioneer XM957 at Seletar in 1967
Nos.4 & 5 are taken at Farnborough and show a Piston(not Jet) Provost formerly used by ETPS(hence code) and the ‘ex RAF’ Comet is probably Mk.1 G-ALYU (BOAC markings just about visible) used for water tank tests after the fatal accidents. The fin is probably just an ‘odd’ fin added for completeness.
Thanks for the informtion chaps. here are a few more.
1 YF-15B Eagle 71-0291
2 P-3C Orion 159327
3 Valiant B2 WJ954 Farnboro
4 Lightning F1 XM139
5 F-104G Starfighter 22+88
6 DH-104 Devon C2 VP975 with EB-66E Destroyer 54-0438
The only dates and locations I can identify are the first three:
The TF-15A and P-3C are both at Farnborough Sept.1974, whilst the black Valiant is also there, but 20 years earlier, in 1954! The Lightning F.1 is from Wattisham Target Facilities Flight and would have been taken in 1971-72, but where? The RAE Devon must have been taken pre-1965, as that’s the year the 10TRW replaced its RB-66Bs(sorry, not EB-66) with RF-4Cs at Alconbury. Location unknown, as is the German Navy F-104G.
They should have gone on the RAF Far East thread. Oh how sad!
I’ve got an idea….why not strip it down to natural metal, paint RAF ‘D-Type’ roundels on it, block in the turrets and mount a wingtip on top of the fuselage where the dorsal turret is?
It’s none of those things! Get out the dictionary and look up ‘addiction’ and ‘disease’, as I think this is where the problem lies! The more you have, the more you want. Collecting stuff, photos, models or whatever is like a drug, without the side-effects! 😮 It’s a cross between nostalgia and wanting to record history to look back with fond memories.
I started at the age of 8 with a visit to Farnborough in 1958 and once you’ve seen 22 Hunters looping in formation, there was no turning back – hooked! :dev2: Build a few Airfix kits, collect a few reggies, start taking photos and you’re IN 😉 There’s no turning back and you have to continue or otherwise you’ll miss something along this trail of aviation history.
Great stuff Ken! See you had good weather…any more shots? Any Il-14s this year?
Great stuff! Watched most of these from the garden! Looks like 47(SF)Sqn’s Herk, XV205 has some new kit fitted in the nose. Any ideas?
Largest aircraft to land at Woburn!
It made it today !! 😮 😮 😮 Also, here are a couple of interesting Tiger Moths at Woburn today from Sweden and Denmark.
Remind me again, where are Kennet based?

Read the heading of my previous post!!!!! 😮
Seafire at North Weald today
Today I had a personal tour of Kennet Aviation’s collection, including the Seafire, which is SX336/G-KASX and is frantically being worked on. This IS the one on Duxford’s list, although it looks very doubtful whether it will be flown in time. First flight is scheduled towards the end of the year.

Peter gave me control at this point and I flew for about forty minutes until we were close to Turweston.

Wish i had that in my logbook Melvyn 🙂 Bit more exotic than the gliders I’ve notched up in the past.
Great post and pictures.
Best Regards, Steve
At least your gliders are originals…this is only a replica!! :diablo:
Doesn’t Lyneham have a Families Day event on Tuesday 16th????
….a little early for the Lanc to be inbound for that, but you never know?????
…yes indeed, Red Arrows right over the top of Swindon around 1800 on Tuesday.
The extra day is to provide time for the 2nd World Tiger Moth aerobatic championships. There are entrants from the USA, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Belgium and Sweden as well as from the UK.
Are they bringing their own aircraft or is this just pilots ‘borrowing’ UK machines?
The BOAC DC-3 is particularly interesting, as I haven’t seen a photo in these markings before. I think the British United Britannia is taken at Prestwick, as those ‘white posts’ were quite famous for getting in the way of photos during the ’60s.
