Nice shots Neil – I’ll be there tomorrow, as I decided the weather will be better….and hotter!
Also decided that Sunday would be better for weather and the display given that the VJ-Day flypast will be a bonus!
There is another excellent book that covers this by Air-Britain entitled “Those Fabulous Flying Years” which is currently available.
Thanks very much for posting the list – just a couple of questions-
1) TWO Catalinas  Plain Sailings and WHICH one? The Dutch one is reported to have engine problems!
2) What is the reg of the Icelandair DC-3? Neither of the two photos posted show it.
3) Has Robs Lamplough’s P-51D “Miss Helen” been repaired and flying again?
The weather forecast Friday evening will determine which day I go! So frustrating to see all that stuff in bad weather!
Bit of a duel edged sword this one, great it is staying in the UK but such a shame it will not fly now, especialy with all the great work that has allready been done by **** Melton and his team.
Bloody auto-censor! You have to call him Richard Melton!! :diablo:
….and now for G-CONV ????
VC10 ZD241 was spotted over the Solent today, apparently she flew in formation with two Jaguars.
Yes, reported by the BBC as ‘a maritime reconnaissance aircraft’ !!
I believe there is a B-24 Liberator near Tobruk. However, Libya being ‘open’ is bit of a sweeping statement. Gadaffi is fed up with being shunned by the world through supporting terrorism and the IRA and appears to have ‘turned over a new leaf’ and has opened diplomatic relations, but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to “form an aviation coach tour to see how many Tu-22s can be photopraphed”, as it is not the most hospitable country to visit!
Anyone know where I can get some official publicity material on the “Sarangs”(Peacocks) Dhruv display team?
Excellent! Do you have any shots of the Austrian Air Force historical aircraft in the static – Yak 11, Harvard, Fouga Magister, SAAB Safir etc?
First biplane in the selection, with the word “Cusco” on the fin, looks like a WW1-era Ansvaldo SVA.5, methinks. I remember seeing a model of one very similar many moons ago. If it is, I wasn’t sure if any of them survived.
Spot on! Indeed it is just that! Wow, what a rare collection. The autogyro is a Bensen B-8, but I am absolutely stuck on the ‘R2D2-shaped’ monstrosity with rotating wing
It certainly wasn’t every time I went past it!
Here, here, the Puma was not covered any time I saw it either?? I think the only other planes at Kemble that had cockpit covers were the Dutch PC-7 during most of the morning and the static Sea Devon that was permanently covered.
nicely put,Alex….to be fair,in my experience, most owners/operators of aircraft(and indeed airfields) are sympathetic to the desires of the spotter, and where possible do try to accomodate them.
Sadly, though, there are some spotters out there who seem to think airfields and aircraft are there solely for their benefit.
As an enthusiast as well as a spotter,I always pop into the clubhouse to announce my presence and ask permission before I do anything else.Buying a cuppa and a bacon sarnie(and maybe a club T-shirt or something) usually helps. When out and about on the airfield I always keep a good lookout and am polite and courteous, and also show an interest in the aircraft, often chatting to the owner if he/she should be present.
My point is that my attitude/actions when committing aviation have done no harm to anybody, and, quite the opposite, has encouraged the airfield/aircraft owner to grant special favours, showing me aircraft not normally viewable etc. This obviously enhances the enjoyment/satisfaction of my visit and maybe,if other spotters were to adopt this practise………..
eternal thanks and best wishes to aircraft/airfield owners and operatoers everywhere

Colin,
We all should know the perfect protocol when visiting airfields, but what relevance has this got to do with aircraft placed on static display at air shows?
Honest answer?
No
Why should I?
If I want a picture there’s plenty in books and on the internet.
Can’t see your problem.
Moggy
Ah, point taken, so perhaps we should all congregate at airfields with no aircraft, then go home and look in books and at the internet to see pictures of aircraft? 😮 😮
