Great pix Albert, although I’m slightly mystified by the lack of substantial JP material in your selection 😉
Unfortunately I am unable to make it tomorrow due to family commitments, but if Glen and the rest of his team happen to read this…
I hope the show goes well 😎
Oh, all right, if you insist! Interesting to note that EVERY aircraft you can see in this shot is BRITISH!
Plenty of Kemble on TV from the main press day back in April, and plenty of pics here…
What’s the point in having Press Days so far in advance, if the footage and a ‘plug’ is not transmitted a day or two before the event, to remind people of what it on in their local area? 🙁
Kemble Today
Today was arrivals day at Kemble and the weather was CRACKING! Here is a taster that I shot. The RAF VC-10 is making its last public appearance and on Monday will depart for St.Athan to be scrapped 🙁
On the subject of Delta Jets “Blue Diamonds” Hunter, on which there has been quitea lot of discussion on this Forum, this is the first time I have seen this aircraft since its been painted. I had a personal detailed guided tour of the aircraft today and compared notes on the colour of blue it has been painted. I can categorically say it’s SUPERB 😀 and and the blue colour is VERY accurate. The only doubt that was put in my mind was by Damien’s pictures, which were taken earlier in the year under differing lighting conditions. (I saw him today and told him in future to exposure them correctly!). Come to Kemble tomorrow for a cracking day out!
Why on earth has there been so little publicity about Kemble Air Day this year? Press Day was last Tuesday and I have been watching BBC Points West and ITV West News on Tv waiting for them to announce it and show some footage – zilch! Have I missed it? Our local radio station is giving it mega publicity, but it should still have more as this is one of our few QUALITY shows that is always worth attending! No Piccies here from Press Day either?
Just a piece of useless information, but did you know that some Tutors were painted WHITE and red in the original Snowbirds team, as these were actually “Golden Centennaires” aircraft from the 1967 team and they couldn’t remove the paint to take it back to natural metal, so they painted them white and thus the Snowbirds were born! 😉
There was a C-47 staging through Reykjavik on the 31st of may on it’s way to a new owner in the UK. Aircraft in all metal finish, didn’t catch the reg though, as that is not my thing. The owner was on board, and talked to some of the airports rats, and said it would be based in Northern UK
Yes, that was the one!
I wish them the very best of luck and hope they make it okay! If I was flying it, I would be ‘all cocked’ and brown seat! 😮
What’s with the ‘kin weather ?????
I’m planning a family get-together with barbecue on Saturday – on Sunday my daughters and grandadughter are staying at home and sons-in-law & me are going to Kemble on Sunday – for Fathers Day.
Tickets are all purchased, arrangements all made…
The forecast two days ago was wall-to-wall sunshine, so it was going to be the first airshow in about the last four that promised decent weather.
It’s Friday, I’ve just driven in to work in Swindon – in low cloud and drizzle.
Boot up the PC – check BBC weather forecast for Malmesbury :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=3458
The forecast has now changed – Sunday is shown as THUNDERY SHOWERS !!!
Is there anyone I can sue ???
Ken
Cummon Ken, get real! They can’t forecast the weather two days ahead and you know that. They said it would be HOT 😮 but who mentioned sunshine? Anyway, we know where to come for a barbeque now – cheers!
No, think the one in question is stripped to bare metal. The one you probably saw was N1944A in USAAF mks based at Kemble.
Caribou departed Staverton this afternoon.
Lovely pictures Yves, but can we have some more information on this aircraft? What is the civil registration, where is it based and who owns it? I am guessing you are in Switzerland, but perhaps this is the “Red Bull” B-25, as I don’t know of any others airworthy in Europe, except in France and Netherlands.
Would this mean Meteors flew from here in the 50’s, with one being a gate guard
Not sure about that as in the ’60s, they put just any aircraft on the gate, depending what was available. However, the Hunter Restoration Group are restoring Hunter F.1 WP190, a Meteor NF.14 and a former Saudi Lightning here.
Thank you, now ive spelt it right i came up with this
The Hanges in the backgroud are the ones i can see from the road

I recall a friend trying to photograph this Meteor T.7, which is WF784, in the ’60s and some irate W/O going absolutely ballistic at him for doing it! Happy days!
Pleased to say it still survives with the Jet Age Collection and in store, possibly at Staverton.
Albert – there were a number of enquiries for airframes to be sited at Gatwick. The Herald was selected but the Viscount was saved post this and when it arrived there wasn’t any possibility that it would travel to Gatwick. She is indeed for sale and has been for a while. There are possibilities for her that would keep her whole and I hope that they come to fruition.
In that case, I think the only place this should really go to is Wroughton and I wonder if the owner has offered it to the Science Museum there?
Whilst trekking in ‘Outer Monbedfordshire’ in search of the famous lesser crumpled Spitfire bulkhead identity, and wild strawberries, I happened on a Viscount ‘behind the shed’.
I believe it is still there and I am sure satellite imagery would confirm it. Alternatively any pilot in the circuit at Old Warden might just have seen it.
I do not have a complete shot as such but it is the background of the attached image.

This has got to be the ex Air Inter F-BGNR at Hatch, stored with Skysport Engineering. It was previously at Perth as a training airframe. There were rumours that is was going to be restored and put on display at Gatwick, but as the viewing area is now closed, those plans have probably fallen through.
