    Update

Quick update, even though it was obviously something of a non-story!

Aircraft salvage group doubts Heinkel dig success in Widnes

Nice thought re burying some bits Gareth, but you will see from the article we didn’t have too many spare!

Andy – any chance of copies of the pics you have?

I have one of these rocket firing heads on my gunsight – bought many years ago when such things were affordable! or was it that I didn’t have a mortgage then 😮

As mentioned I was led to believe they were off Typhoons, but on one of my early digs on a Firefly that crashed in 1945, I found parts of this exact type of gunsight head – we also found the gunsight body which was marked with another Firefly’s serial number! Sadly it was later nicked during a display 😡

Has anyone else found gunsights marked with aircraft serial number’s – They were stamped into the metal, not painted.

    Ejection seat

Must be bored today as browsing through eBay even though I’m broke!

This is certainly as it says: Martin Baker Type 4P2 Mk 2 Ejection Seat. Fitted To Office Chair Base and a nice looking seat too, though I have no idea if the price is reasonable?

However, I used to have three Ejection seats and had to get rid of them when the kids were young as they were attracted to them like you would not believe and as most here will know they are VERY heavy and unstable – I sold two and one went to Millom where it dissapeared 🙁

Just look at the base in the photos – Would you sit on this??? 😮

    Supermarine Swift

Believe this aircraft has been discussed on the forum in the past – but IIRC was definitely not for sale?

Supermarine Swift (F Mk.4/ wk275) Aircraft, Historic Piece. Restorers Dream!

Seem to also recall condition may not quite be a “Restorers Dream”? and as for the price 😮 – So IMO it isn’t really for sale is it?

Not familiar with the exact circumstances of this loss (wasn’t my chapter in the book!) but this seems an overly dramatic conclusion to draw – if an aircraft was lost or having difficulty getting a fix on its position, is it not conceivable that it may have been circling until its true position was established?

Also please note comments re the Protection of Military Remains Act.

Wow Nick….that’s another great string in your bow!! An expert on hairdresserania!! You don’t an Mx5 or MG Midget do you!!!!:D

I confess – Yes I did once own a Midget 😮 for two weeks – hated it :p Current collection: 71 Series III SWB Landy, 67 Herald 1200 Convertible (potential hairdressers car?:D), 64 Bond Equipe GT 2+2 & 51 MG YA.

hairdresserania??? Not heard that one before, but it is amazing what you learn searching through French Brocantes and Vide greniers looking for WWI memorabilia 😀

Looks very similar to a early hair curling tongs heater – but don’t recall seeing a folding one, so perhaps could be for sterilising surgical instruments?

The Preston based Bond Car comapany managed to get access to the Lightnings on the nearby Samlesbury airfield for a publicity photoshoot for the launch of their new four wheel sports car, the Equipe in 1963 – photo here: http://bondcars.net/Equipe%20GT2+2.htm Don’t think Jaguar ever managed such a coup?

Isn’t that what TIGHAR are best at?

Well you can’t argue with that! and don’t they have access to some nice toys too! – Yet still they can’t produce the results – possibly because they are not there to find in the first place 🙁 Perhaps it is time to see this as being THE result and moving on to a new theory?
