Pretty sure the second photo was taken at Blackpool where she was part of the auction of Reflectaire aircraft/items.

Hi Mobius – and welcome. Good to see that pic. Presumably another truck had the wings on it. Shouldn’t think those straps did the elevators any good!!

One of those documentaries made especially for goldfish – the same short clips of film are used over and over again within the span of the programme.

It was incomplete – there was no mention of her being seen at The Stork Hotel :diablo: :diablo: :diablo:

    Hi Tom,
First my selfish hat – I don’t like large numbers of unassociated items spread around/obscuring the principal exhibits – but from the views on your website you don’t seem guilty of that. I do like the occasional diorama where an aircraft becomes part of a larger exhibit and I believe such a display can be enjoyed by most visitors. I like exhibits well lit although, if you are not visiting to take photos, I can see the arguments for moody/atmospheric lighting.
Taking off my hat, don’t ignore the ladies. Do whatever you can to make the experience of visiting your Museum more enjoyable for mum/wife/girlfriend. At the very least a comfortable, reasonably priced cafe/teashop, displays highlighting women’s roles in flying/production/servicing, a memorial garden with seating. Also to cater for families with a wide age-range a children’s play area will help. Finally, good toilets will not be the top memory of visiting your Museum – bad toilets might be.
Hope not teaching Granny to suck eggs!!

what sad news, inevitable as is the end to all human’s lives, but still terribly sad.

You’ve got your own wings now Mr. Henshaw.

Can’t help I’m afraid Alan – other than to suggest the expensive option of buying the Indexes off Key!

Trouble is these are all annual so would still take some searching.

Nice photos Pen Pusher Did you get one of the RE8? – I don’t think I’ve seen one yet of it in AirSpace.

The Canberra does look good suspended and prompts the question – what is the largest or heaviest aircraft hanging on wires in a museum?

PU-597 The Minimoa looks lovely – as much a contrast to “six turning, four burning” as could possibly be 😀 😀

Also many drawings could well be applicable to the DH82 ( Tiger Moth ) even though they originated from the DH 60

Hadn’t thought of that – thanks BM

    Vulcan at MAM????

Coincidentally we are only a few days past the anniversary of XL360 arriving at Coventry Airport – 4th February, 1983. The Museum paid the MoD £5028 virtually all of this raised by local donations.

XL360 stayed parked on the apron for several months until the ground was dry/firm enough to tow her to the Museum. Thankfully it was a hot dry summer and, despite it being an uphill run, a VERY large tractor provided by Massey Fergusson (at that time a Coventry company) did the job admirably. Only one ‘soft’ spot was found during the move.

My first thought from his description – but the Albatross was a child of the 1930s?

Just out of curiousity, while all the Victor experts are looking 🙂 does anyone know the serial number of the Victor that ran off the runway at Gaydon during an “At Home” display in the early 60s(?)

Part of the display was the “Four Minute Take-Off” – a popular and very exciting demo of four Victors scrambling and getting airbourne in 4 minutes. Starting up and moving off the ORP the 2nd or 3rd aircraft failed to turn soon enough and ran over the opposite edge of the runway onto the grass – blocking the end of the runway!

I’ve got my patriotic hat on (for my home town that is)

Steve T’s suggestion of a Siskin is probably second but topping that would be a flyable RE8 – most of the originals were built in Coventry. Acheivable but the engine might be a bit tricky.

Does anyone know how accurate the recently-built Peter Jackson RE8 is?

I read on another forum that several of AA Classic Flight’s period aircraft will be doing a flypast at Cosford at 12.15. I’m hoping to get to Baginton late am in the hope I might catch them taking off (assuming they go straight there).
