Sorry can’t help Stormbird other than to suggest the lady reads Cobham’s memoirs “A Time To Fly” (Shepheard-Walwyn, 1978) although she has probably done that. Regrettably the book has no index to look up people mentioned.

Just one other point, Cobham’s christian name is spelt Alan – I only mention this out in case it affects any google-type searches.

battle is under very long term restoration. Nice museum, but the roof leaks and tha hangar is not heated. Some aircraft have a thick layer of dust/dirt on them 🙁

I visited in August last year and I thought their fantastic collection was well exhibited and I don’t remember an issue with dust. I think the Battle had nose cowls when I was there.

I would recommend anyone who has the chance to visit.

Highly recommend this book – very few pictures but very readable.

    Phantom Phixer

MAM has a Grasshopper XK789 that came from Warwick Boy’s School a few years ago but it had previously been at Cosford.

I see in the latest “Wrecks & Relics” the index lists 31 preserved examples.

Brilliant idea – wonder what it felt like in the cockpit end!

What’s the rule of physics about action and reaction? The downforce on the tail that far back must have affected the pitch enormously.

Amazing sight – wonder if it was sanctioned and how many times he practised it before performing in public?

Also about 12 secs in the rear Vulcan turns into an XB-70 as one of the 707s passes behind it’s nose!

The Chinese seller is just relisting items on sale elsewhere on ebay.. I wouldn’t touch him with a bargepole…

The Bell X-1 motor is on ebay.com being offered by Dauntless Aviation with a starting price of $1000 which has, so far, attracted 1 bidder.

Nah it was much better watching it in the Astra cinema on the Duxford North site (and we sang the theme tune!).

A piece of 20th century art?

Well, if they can stand a helicopter upside down in a public square (in Austria?) and call it “art”……

Sounds like good news – although early days still.

I wonder if it’s just Concorde or will the other Bristol types be included?

Jumped in on a conversation that was going on at a local history fair a couple of weeks ago where a chap was saying that their tea-towel holder was made from Whitley throttle lever(s?).

I suggested he visit the MAM stand to tell them and I noticed him talking to them later.
