Indeed it would, however, it is the RAF Museum Cosford

They have foreign types there (and at Hendon) already and it would follow the example set with the Battle of Britain Hall.

Large number of small “cottage-industry” firms 1936-46 supplying the likes of Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft and Armstrong Siddeley Motors (as there had been during the 1914-18 war).

What is the name of the firm Quentin?

Have you tried the local papers? – can supply you with names, addresses of those if any use.

Yes, the Mk.2 balls-retraction system seems to work ok.

The new building at Cosford has received a fair bit of critisiscm on this forum but I remember reading it’s design was an interpretation of the Berlin Wall (the long spine running along its centre-line).

Although I am happy more aeroplanes are going under cover I find it sad, as a “Cold War Exhibition”, there is no attempt to display any Soviet aircraft (or American for that matter). Would be nice to compare a Tu.104 with a Valiant, a Mig or Su with a Javelin, etc.

All the archives of former companies like AWA and Vickers are held at the BAe HQ offices at Farnborough

This should surely read “all the surviving archives”.

Story goes that some of the archive material transferred Baginton to Bitteswell and some of that transferred Bitteswell to Woodford with copious use of waste skips involved.

I think of Ray Williams as the AWA expert (I think he worked at Woodford).

There are a few items (including, I think, a few AW.27 Ensign and AW.38 Whitley drawings) lodged with Coventry City Council’s Records Office.

Tell ’em that these days, and they won’t believe you…

When I were a lad my daddy made me wind up the undercarraige on his Anson by hand – 30 turns it took LOL

This resulted in comments here that the Polish AF is flying fighter aircraft on loan from German museums…

Shades of the RAF claiming back Vulcans allocated to museums for use in the Falklands War in 1982?

A formation would be really tricky. I guess the Hummingbird and possibly a few others, flat-out, downhill probably wouldn’t come close to the speed at which the Sea Vixen stalls.

I wonder if it could be done by them all flying in concentric circles – slowest on the inside, fastest outside?

Guess there will be more appearing on ebay then (he says hoping that greater availability will bring the price down).
Still got a lot of gaps in my library.

Yep – probably my favourite line-up so far but wouldn’t the 146 (or whatever silly name they gave it) qualify and, perhaps, the Nimrod??

And where was Battle of the River Plate, Sink The Bismark, Cockleshell Heroes, etc.?

Just goes to show how subjective these “best ofs” are and probably more dependent on the average age of the people polled than pure quality. I wouldn’t have said Casablanca was a “War Movie” – yes set in wartime but so werelots of other films.

[QUOTE=Mark12]Perhaps a more appropriate base – The Bristol Blenheim.

    MarkQUOTE]

But Texan Tomcat is right in his thought of it being a model of the Bristol 142/143 – note the low mounted wing. I’m sure Blenheim experts will confirm.

    Still a beautiful object.

    …the Virgin train of thought…

Does that mean the sponsored aircraft would be late for each display? LOL

I agree with previous comments – would rather see an aircraft in the air in ANY colourscheme. Stating the obvious – paintschemes can be taken off again.
