Fantastic collection – a place on my “wish list” to visit.

Thanks for posting – interesting collection.

Vampire T.11 visitor
Airbase had a visitor yesterday (Wed) in the lovely shape of Vampire T.11.
Stopped en route from North Weald to Dublin for liquid refreshment (the aeroplane and the occupants).
It may call in on the return and may stay at Airbase for a little while.

Post about a boat on an historic aircraft forum? certainly found favour :diablo:
Not suprising – she is a thing of beauty and all credit to your mate for the restoration of the last survivor of her class.
One hopes that all the time, effort and money ploughed into the acquisition and restoration might find a little financial reward in film & TV work.

The pic looking out of the window at an engine start with Dakota House in the background raises a bit of a smile.
It had been the habit to park the ‘6 on the apron tail-on to Dakota House. The smoke chucked out during start-up has set of the fire alarms in the offices more than once. It happened again Saturday – now the aircraft’s tail is no longer in that direction 😀

would like to know the outcome.

Is the Series H shown in colour a restored aircraft or a recently-built reproduction?
The military parade showing several towed series H machines – do the wings fold??
Re the close-up of the Aztatl engine I’m assuming it is a radial engine?. I can see the exhaust pipes coming off each cylinder head.
Any idea if the cylinders had inlet and exhaust valves as I can see no external push rods common on radials.
In your specifications list are the length and span dimensions the wrong way round??

Concorde, the only museum piece that isn’t obsolete!!
SR-71?

Does the photo have a pencilled ref no on the back? Many portrait studios did this should the customer return for more copies.
If it has, some family history society may lead to access to Vandyks files – if they still exist. A bit of a long-shot.

Ken was after an engine plate for a Gipsy Queen a few weeks ago!

I vaguely remember from 40 years ago when the Midland Aircraft Preservation Society was looking for premises, we looked looked at a building (wooden I think) surviving on the ex-RAF site. I reckon it was in too bad a condition to consider using. I know I took photos at the time but where they are now??

Just a thought off the top of my head…
As it was a single aircraft that attacked might Walsall have been a secondary target for a bigger raid elsewhere?

Advert in local free paper today for the opening of Airbase THIS Saturday.
Admission: Adults £8, Children (over 8) £4.
Taxi rides in the DC-6 £15 (£5 discount on that if you’ve got a copy of the ad!)
Unfortunately there’ll be no pleasure flying this weekend as the airfield license is not complete yet.
However I believe the Howard 500 will be on static display.
From Saturday Airbase will be open Tues to Sun (plus Bank Hols).

As a volunteer at Classic Flight I have posted this for information to other forum users. If the mods think it as advertising please delete it. RS
They can’t mean Cosford can they? Where would it fit?????
Would be nice to have a retired Shuttle here in the UK though – better at the National Space Centre?
Roger Smith.
I wondered if it had anything to do with the bombs having to be primed before release
