…instead I’ll be spending a few days in Cheltenham Hospital with a corneal ulcer 😡
Sounds unpleasant – best wishes for a speedy recovery.

TO, I spoke to Peter later – no problem.
You disappeared quick, I was going to say I agreed with you on the last subject debated.
Peter, the original idea was to form a Coventry branch of the Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society but the SVAS weren’t keen.

Well, “mid May” has passed – any news on what the outcome is?
Roger Smith.
When I was there yesterday I noticed that a set of steps were up at the side of the fuselage but IIRC the door was shut. There was a second set of steps standing under one engine (port outer??). That was oserving from a distance.
Roger Smith.
yes Moggy, not all advances in technology are a good thing. The inventor of that did a great dis-service to mankind. :D:D

The Li-2 wasn’t a ‘resurrection’ surely? Didn’t it (like the Soviet copy of the B-29) run in production in parallel with the original?
There’s also been recent suggestions the Bronco may go back into production and did I read somewhere someone wants to restart production of the Beaver?
IIRC some ‘new’ Ford Tri-motors were built.

Here you have the pictures of the Aura when it crashed…….
Tragic that the designer Lascurain died in the accident. The photos give the impression it nosed over during a forced landing.

“University full of….” nah!
But that is excellent news – how many Proctors will there be in the UK then?
Roger Smith.
That is great news and am delighted for you.

……. I think the Phantom has been completed both sides, might be my pictures that give a wrong impression?
………
As of yesterday looks complete on port side but missing a few markings (on fin/rudder) on starboard.

3-cylinder engine? Anzani?, Blackburne Thrush?. Wing reminiscent of a sailplane wing.
Roger Smith.
Its a real shame actually, she hasnt flown for a couple of years now, she needs new wings or so ive been told?
perhaps alanl, Consul, or RPSmith might be able to shed some light on this?
I think the situation with the Twin Pin (“Primrose”) was related to brackets that attach the wing struts rather than the wings themselves.

AWA’s earlier factory/airfield was a short distance away at Whitley. Some of that site is owned by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Again nearly all of the original AWA buildings were demolished years ago – with one exception. The Flight Shed which was erected in the 1920s survives and is in use by JLR – although I don’t know what for.
Roger Smith.
Earlier than the 1920s??
It’s got a roundel on the fuselage and it’s serial (A1—??) on the fin. Did the RAF still fly BE2s after 1918??

Beafighter
A friend is researching aircraft production at the Standard factory in Coventry.
There is a reference in at least one WW2 document to “the Standard Beaufighter factory”
Is there an expert on Beaufighter production out there?
Did Standard build complete fuselages? or just cockpit sections? Did they build 1,000 units or 3,000 units?
Anyway, good reason for MAM to have that piece of Beaufighter – just wants a Mosquito and Oxford to go with it 😀
