At what height would they have released the bomb? If low-level had the weapon some delayed fuse to allow the aircraft to escape or would they have been suicide missions?

Nice pics of the MAM bird. Anyone have any of that voodoo cockpit section?
See thread from almost exactly two years ago

G-AEUJ – Newforest says Sutton Coldfield, dailee “G-AEUG” (typo??) at Sleap in 2008, “Wrecks and Relics” says stored at Cosford (but last noted May, 2002).
Off topic but does anyone know if any of Bob Mitchell’s collection remain at Cosford?
Roger Smith.
Why do you want to know that? if you live nr aldergrove go and ask them..?
might be afraid of a visit from Special Branch? :diablo:
Anyway, it’s started a thread with some nostalgia coming out.

This very futuristic-looking aeroplane is the kind of shape I, as a bored teenager, might have doodled during school/college lessons
A couple of interesting points: on the video I think is the inference a ‘spying’ facility may have been built into it. Also is the reference to the two Bugatti 50B engines – converted by Bugatti for use on the Racer. Quote: “The two original 50Bs still exist, and Wilson and Carlson have seen one of them – in South Carolina. The other is in England.” Anyone know whereabouts? I’ve looked and it is not in the BAPC engines list but, I guess, it is likely to be in a automobile museum/collection.

Thanks baz – I DID search but this thread didn’t come up!!! Too much of the hard stuff maybe?? 🙂
Great set of photos j_j thanks for posting.
So, who’s going to be first to say where they all are now.
Roger Smith.
Thanks Bwb – so the tailplane is one piece and after unbolting (and elevator/s removed) is rotated through 90deg and drawn through the ‘hole’ 🙂
Never knew that. Were others in the Hawker family the same??

Sea Fury
Thanks for a great set of pictures.
I have a question about the Sea Fury. Never noticed before the big ‘hole’ in the structure of the fin – is it there for a reason?

It really makes me realise how lucky we are in the UK, in that very same line up of airworthy Hind variant/Gladiator/Tutor can still be seen at Old Warden, 80 years on. Amazing.
Happy Christmas everyone. Richard
I’ve got an unsatiable appetite though and want the Wellesley as well :diablo:
Youre right though, we should count our blessings.

I thought the subject was gliders, everything mentioned so far would class as a sailplane
As for a museum full of gliders proper, there is one in the UK, the Museum of Army Flying, Middle Wallop (Hadrian, Horsa, Hotspur, Hamilcar and Kite).
And nobody has mentioned yet The Assault Glider Trust at RAF Shawbury with Airspeed Horsa and Waco Hadrian.
Roger Smith.
I don’t think a dedicated gliding museum could survive in the UK without a source of financial support.
When Midland A.M. was the Midland A.P.S. there were four gliders in the collection at one time – Nyborg, Grunau Baby, Kranich and Slingsby Cadet. The Midland A.M. still has the Cadet, joined in recent years by a Primary from Warwick School and an Olympia from Husbands Bosworth. many of the UK museums/collections have at least one glider and it would be interesting to see a list of what is where.
France’s Musee de L’air in Paris has a number of gliders displayed in it’s superb collection as does the magnificent Brussells museum. Sadly I think London’s Science Museum only has a Lillenthal (replica).

Am I right in thinking this pic shows the Hurricane with undercarraige retracted – but all the others with it down???

AA – I could only see the wings but presume as mentioned earlier (wings, u/c and tail) pictured in post 47.
Perhaps DGH might visit to confirm?
Roger Smith.
Speaking to Dave (DGH) at Classic Flight’s ‘night’ shoot on Sunday.
Unfortunately he lost his access to storage, fortunately Classic Flight offered to store. So, the parts from the Tawney Owl are now safely ensconced in Hangar 7 at Baginton.
Not remembering the detail of the situation I didn’t ask about the fuselage – it wasn’t with the other bits.

Thanks for correcting me on the address AgCat – Lockhurst Lane becomes Holbrook Lane about 100 yds from (what used to be) Dunlop’s main gate:confused:
