Or you could write direct to Meggitt, Lockhurst Lane, Coventry – where some of the original Dunlop factory/offices remain in use.
When I was an apprentice there in the 1960’s a neighbour was in charge of the Aviation D.O. (No. 2 factory). I spent lunchtimes looking through the master book list of drawing numbers that started IIRC in the mid thirties.
Nearby there was a small, detached brick building that contained microfilm copies of all the drawings.

The laminar flow wing fitted to a Hurricane was designed by Jimmy Lloyd of Armstrong Whitworth and built, converted and flown by AWA at Baginton (Rock Farm). Haven’t got any dates to hand but fairly sure this was during the war.
It was part of research into laminar flow for a projected post-war all-wing airliner that also included the AW.52G and AW.52 flying wings.

Thanks Baldeagle.
David, I reckon it’s a rotary – further down thge link with the pictures IS a couple of pics of a 9-cyl radial but it’s not the same engine as fitted. Was having thoughts of a Lynx-powered 504 – pity there’s not an example of a 504N around.

Very nice. Anyone know what the type of engine is (a 9cyl rotary)?

If the light conditions allow I will take notes (as I usually do) and type out at some stage. If I get that far can send you a copy.

Reply from Barry Clay as follows…
” Roger I have checked through all of the official movements records for Baginton around that time, this is the only foreign DC-4 that was a visitor apart from an Irish registered example EI-ARS.
The visits for LN-MOB the well known ‘Moby Dick’ were on-
28-09-76
21-10-76
15-10-76
23-11-76
04-11-76
LN-MOB at Baginton on one of its many charters.
Barry.”
Hope this helps (although I don’t know if LN-MOB is Icelandic)
Roger Smith.
I’ll post your request on Barry Clay’s “Wings over Warwickshire” (WOW) forum where a number of Coventry spotters are involved. Will post back if any useful replies.

It wont affect the MAM directly as the site is on city council land outside (but adjoining) the airport boundary with it’s own access from the public highway.
There was originally the ‘benefit’ of being adjacent to the airport with visitors being able to view modern aircraft and about six exhibits didn’t arrive by road (ie they came in via the airport).
As the years have passed more and more buildings have been erected on the airport near to the museum leaving only a smallish gap to view the runway.
I’m hoping this isn’t the proverbial ‘last nail’ for Coventry Airport 😮
