looks good – thanks for posting. Yes, let’s see some more.

I believe Ted still has ‘CCB, although the last time I spoke to him (about three years ago?) he was not actively working on her.

Meteor T.7 at Kemble?

I, too, have the Lightning (which I keep as a reminder of ATC summer camp at Coltishall) and one of the Nimrod (the jet-powered one not the biplane).
Funny, I had been thinking of selling them.

[QUOTE=merlin70;1440522] …..and her maternal grandfather was an air gunner who played a key role in the “Great Escape” from Stalag Luft III….. [QUOTE]
Stanley Carter who rose to the rank (post war?) of Squadron Leader. That POW historian seemed gob-smacked to see the “cheques” listing in the back of his diary relating to the disposal of the effects of some of those escapees who were executed.
Have to admit I’ll take a bit more interest when Kate Humble appears on our TV screens in the future.

Museums such as Ceventry etc. are run on a charitable basis and you can be pretty sure your £ 1:00s are going to be used for a/c preservation Planemike…………..
Well, that’s the hope 😡

It must be the nose of a Mk.II Lanc :D:diablo::D

It’s going to “line the pockets” of others somewhere along the line – an infrastructure will have to be installed and run to take the parking fees.
At worst it will be contracted out to a private company, at best it may slightly reduce the queue at the local jobcentre by increasing the Museum staff.
Roger Smith.
Planemike mentions public transport. Cosford is fortunate in having a railway station – but it is a bit of a hike from it to the Museum (I tried it earlier this year). It’s even further from the nearest bus stop.
With the recession and the long, slow recovery that will follow I agree with Andrew-O and believe the free entry to some state-funded museums we have enjoyed for some years will end before long.
Some places like The Railway Museum at York might have other factors to consider – ie visitors to York parking at what was a free car park??
Chox’s point about the RAF charging us for parking on land we own I would counter with the fact that that is what Councils do throughout the land – charge shoppers/tourists to park on public-owned land.

The earlier version starring John Wayne was on TV a couple of weeks ago.
I was trying to make out what the Chinese transport that the ‘Tigers used as a bomber at the end of the film. It seemed to be somewhere between DC3 and Beech 18 in size, the two engines were set high on the wings and had a curious three-fin, biplane tail. Although the flying shots were obviously a model the ground shots looked like either a real (or based on a real) aeroplane – unlike the wooden “P-40s”

I’ve always loved the looks of the Rata……
Yep, me too. I started to build a control-line model of one many, many years ago but never got it finished. I think it’s that (relatively) massive radial up front and reminds me of some of the inter-war US racers.

……You all appear to have fallen into the common trap by associating the MoD (or almost any government department) with the words “standards” and “logic”. ;)…….
LOL
Ok, OK but are there any other examples of the same number being used for different models off the production line?
For example NOT the Victor K2 which was a post-production conversion of the B2.
Roger Smith
……. These suffixes are MoD issued ……
So, if they are an MoD designation, who named/designated the fighter version “F.1”
“15 all” 😉
Roger Smith.
Having an affinity to the Gnat I have a question if anyone can answer it.
There was, of course, the original fighter version of the Gnat – the F.1. Yes I know it didn’t enter service with the R.A.F. but a small number were given military serials for evaluation and the F.1 was used by foreign air forces. Why then, when the two-seat trainer was introduced, was it not designated T.2 in line with what appeared to be “standard” practice?
I can’t think of another British type (except maybe where there was a post-build conversion from single-seat to two-seat) where this occurs.
Roger Smith.
Interesting topic.
I tend to agree with Bruce’s thoughts – I, too, would be suprised if one hadn’t survived. Edgar’s belief that they would all have turned to dust is incorrect – I know the composition may be different but there are plenty of examples of rubber products lasting 50, even 100, years. UV light is bad for rubber.
